At So Frenchy So Chic In The Park all eyes turn towards the stage, but that doesn’t mean Hindi Zahra, Brigitte, Lou Doillon and Soviet Suprem are the only stars of the day. For many, it’s the little village square of pop-up French food providers who are the real rock stars. Let’s see who’s on the bill in 2016, and sample their set lists.
OYSTERS UNPLUGGED
Shucks, could you get a more perfect name for an picnic in the park with live music? There are five generations behind this world class, local success story. Each and every oyster will be hand selected to the highest quality and then shipped fresh to the day. They will also be a perfect match with Laurent Perrier being served at the champagne bar next door.
HOTEL GITAN
The latest offering from the Reymond dynasty is Hotel Gitan, set within an iconic deco pub in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran. For So Frenchy they’ve created some hand-held versions of their peerless fresh, French cuisine, like the Brochette de boeuf with volaille, lamb and cous cous, garnished with yogurt and cucumber. They will also be serving up a tasty combo of nicoise bread with Provencal vegetables, virgin olive oil and smoked salmon.
LE PELICAN
The much loved boutique French Basque bistro will be offering what could be the day’s signature dishes: Kingfish carpaccio with lemon purée, dill and piquillo; and snails croquettes with a parsley purée and herb salad. What? You made a new year’s resolution to cut down on snails? Fine, more for the rest of us.
LE PETIT BISTRO
Yes, the French can burger with the best of them. Try Le Parigot, with an Australian beef patty grilled to order, served on a soft pain au lait brioche with melted French blue cheese aioli and smoked bacon.
PICNIC HAMPERS
As well as this truly délicieux selection on the day, picnic hampers can be pre-ordered on our website from Bright Young Things in Melbourne and Simmone Logue in Sydney. Think crusty baguettes, summer salads and chocolate ganache tarts, as well as curated cheese and charcuterie plates.
EN PLUS!
Playing support as always to the headliners, you’ll find summer favourites like calamari, frites, ice-cream and artisanal delights like the ever-popular crêpes and macarons, foie gras sandwiches and traditional
raclette from the alps. A crowd favourite from last year, the deliciously named flammkuchen, from Alsace will also be back.
AND VARIOUS BARS
What French picnic would be complete without wine? The finest from Laurent Perrier will be chilled and flowing all day alongside Paul Louis Blanc de Blancs at the champagne bar. There will also be Kronenbourg 1664 beer, rosé from Provence, reds and whites from Bordeaux, and special cocktails served from the SFSC vintage caravan. A new addition in 2016 will be glasses of Lillet, the classic Bordeaux aperitif, with classes during the day on how to make the most of this longstanding French favourite.
When it comes to food and beverages, at So Frenchy we seek out the artisans, the local providers and the fellow revellers who share our passion for creating the perfect picnic in the park, with both superb taste in French food and Australian produce. Bon appetit, mes amis.
