In 2011 Coaster is cooking up delights from the growing sounds we found in our own backyard with an all-Australian line up. We have hand picked some of the best live performers from as far flung as Western Australia, with festival favourites John Butler Trio, Jebediah, Drapht and Tim and Jean, across to Melbourne to grab Little Red, a quick stop off in rural VIC to add a dash of Gold Fields, through Sydney for a sprinkling of The Potbelleez, Bag Raiders, Tonite Only, and Andy Bull, reaching up to Brisbane to harvest QLD’s next big things Ball Park Music, finishing off with a smattering of more amazing acts to make on delicious musical feast.
Central Coast hero’s Something With Numbers hit the stage to play their first show in two years and only show for 2011, with fellow Coast locals, One Dollar Short coming out of hibernation, after calling an indefiniate hiatus back in 2005. These two things alone are turning Coaster 2011 into a welcome home party of epic proportions.
After an unforgettable debut last year, Tomorrow Land returns with a collection of talent such as Ajax, sexy DJ’ing minx Nina Las Vegas, Tom Piper, Naysayer and Gilsun, Wolfpack, Purple Sneakers DJ’s and more to ensure lots of calories are burnt on the dance floor.

Intricately clever and eclectic, a brief summary would not do In Loving Memory justice. The second full-length release from Sydney rockers The Paper Scissors combines banging guitar riffs with impassioned vocals and everything in between, including drum solos and incredible harmonising. There are highlights aplenty, beginning with the first track ‘Disco Connect,’ a cool groove with gutsy vocals. Here we have a dreamy introduction with soft piano notes, immediately followed by gut-wrenching lyrics and a slight reggae vibe courtesy of a steel drum. There is also the slightly confusing addition of a touchtone phone sound effect. Jam-packed with |
musical contrasts and ever-changing vibes, this first track sets the pace for the majority of the album.

Brisbane psychedelic pop and electro funk outfit SEALS launch their new EP ‘Castaways’ at The Zoo on Friday June 17. The show will also be a send off, marking their departure for a 15 date tour of the UK; taking in 13 cities and the London Tube.
Having evolved from The Baby Seal Club in early 2011, SEALS have sensed a growing understanding of their unique musical style, with the crowds building steadily at their shows. |
The first few months of the year saw the band hitting the road and touring relentlessly – honing their skills to record their latest release ‘Castaways’. During this time their music was featured on One HD as part of the Quiksilver Pro surfing competition and also in the Red Cross Blood Bank’s ‘Pull Up Your Sleeves’ youth campaign.

When UK darlings We Are the Ocean released their debut album Cutting Our Teeth in 2010, the band was subject to a plethora of Alexisonfire comparisons from both critics and punters alike. Who could blame them though, the current fad of screamed verses and uplifting, melodic choruses has been going gangbusters and it did wonders for this particular band’s standing internationally. However, most couldn’t get past the clear Alexisonfire influence, owing mainly to the sing/scream dynamics between main vocalist Dan Brown and vocalist/guitarist Liam Combry. |
