Album Review | Unwritten Law – Blue Room

Review – Sibel Kutlucan
I have to admit, I had kind of forgotten about Unwritten Law for awhile now but when I heard they were remastering Blue Room, their debut released in 1994, I was pretty stoked (no offence but the original sound quality-wise was a tad shocking), it was a great album! For those who haven’t listened to Blue Room, and are familiar with Unwritten Law’s newer stuff, post-2002, then listen to this! It is completely different, but Blue Room showcases the band at their best and in their early days with their 90s punk rock sound.

Double Pass Giveaway: Bev Killick at Sit Down Comedy Club 15th- 17th September 2011

Check below for your chance to win a double pass to see Bev Killick @ The Sit Down Comedy Club, Paddington QLD this September*

Bev Killick at Sit Down Comedy Club | 15th- 17th September 2011

Bev’s life has become all about boobs since she landed a role in the much-aired Berlei Ad for the Uplifting Tour of Australia and was asked to perform as a Bosum Buddy of Busting Out! Of course she accepted the Busting Out! offer and has now toured for the last 4 years in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and Edinburgh Festival. Bev is also touring with Wild Women of Comedy, alongside Amanda Grey and Sarah Levitt, and doing solo stand up shows around the nation.

Bev started making people laugh from the age of ten at family gatherings. Invariably these gatherings would end up with Bev putting on a show. Always the class clown and lunch time entertainer, Bev’s ability to remember a joke (handed down from her Dad at the meat works) and tell it well, saw her doing Stand Up Comedy in the school quadrangle long before she knew that it would be her calling.

Album Review | Breathe Carolina – Hell Is What You Make It

Review – Sibel Kutlucan
Breathe Carolina’s third full length album, Hell Is What You Make It is great for when you want to dance, but can’t quite bring yourself to listen to full on pop or dance anthem tracks…and you still require that bit of ‘rock’ in your music.

Breathe Carolina is an assemblage of power duo Kyle Even and David Schmitt hailing from Denver, and their styles and choices definitely create a bipolar sound. Combining an electro pop sound with synthesizers and screamo/crunk-core, mixed with ‘traditional’ rock guitars and drums, Breathe Carolina certainly is interesting to listen to. Personally, I think it’s fantastic!

Mariachi El Bronx – II | Album Review

Another offering from hardcore punk band The Bronx’s alter ego, proving that having a split (band) personality can work wonders for some. The Bronx have put together their second album of mariachi music and done so with talent, substance and merit.

Every Time I Die Australian Tour – September/October 2011

Supported by Acacia Strain (USA), The Word Alive (USA). While theres no exact science to the resulting madness that is EVERY TIME I DIE the band has consistently produced maniacal, convulsive and completely unpredictable albums throughout their career.

Nowhere is this more evident than on their stunning fifth album, New Junk Aesthetic, which sees EVERY TIME I DIE set out to corrupt souls and bring fans to their knees with an orchestrated chaos of their heaviest most skillful work..remarkable Rock Sound

Live Review | Dead Letter Circus + Closure in Moscow + Wolves @ The Hi-Fi Bar, Melbourne – 24 August 2011

Review – Billy Geary
The meteoric rise of Dead Letter Circus in the past 18 months is no secret. Having quickly moved from the small, intimate feel of the Espy to regularly selling out the substantially bigger HiFi Bar and touring the UK and America, its fair to say that DLC are doing all right. Back in Melbourne for yet another jaunt around Australia, this time for their “No Fracking Way” Tour, Brisbane alternative rock darlings Dead Letter Circus were at the top of their game on Wednesday night.
