We caught up with “Mourne” the eldest of the three sisters from rural Esk, Queensland. In Character, we didn’t know what to expect from the oldest and most outspoken of the comedic musical trio.

  It’s been several years but finally we’ve managed to get one of the most requested and enduring artists back to Australia. The legendary rock guitarist, piano player, singer and songwriter JOHN HIATT will be showcasing his highly lauded new Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns with the help of his all-star band THE COMBO.

This latest album highlights what JOHN HIATT does best as reviewed by Rolling Stone’s Jody Rosen : “Character sketches of sketchy characters, set to sturdy roots rock, delivered in his craggy country-soulman’s voice. HIATT’S craftsmanship is as sharp as ever.”

Leonard Cohen: new album, Old Ideas

  The rumors are true, friends: Old Ideas, Leonard Cohen’s first album of new material in eight years, will be released January 31st, 2012. Old Ideas will be Leonard’s twelfth studio album with Columbia Records since signing with the label in 1967. Consisting of ten new songs, Old Ideas poetically addresses some of the most profound questions of human existence — spirituality, love, sexuality, loss and death.

Fans were given a hint of what to expect when Cohen made remarks as the recipient of the Principe de Astrurias Prize for literature in Spain in October:

On the night, Lindsay McDougall (aka Triple J’s ‘The Doctor’) introduced the concept well: “a show celebrating one of Australia’s music legends by the showcasing of new, young Australian talent”. Triple J’s tribute to Nick Cave, a series of concerts played around the country entitled Straight To You, remarkably achieved both of these objectives.

Due to ongoing commitments recording her fourth album, pop dynamo BERTIE BLACKMAN has unfortunately had to cancel her scheduled appearance at this year’s Pyramid Rock Festival. Bertie is very sorry to have to pull out of the festival, but says she simply isn’t ready to take her new band and songs to the live arena.

  Andy Murray will start his 2012 season at the Brisbane International in January.

The world No.3 and three-time Grand Slam finalist will join a host of tennis stars in what is shaping up to be the strongest Brisbane International line-up to date.

The Scotsman, who confirmed his attendance today, said he was looking forward to starting his year in Queensland.
