Live Review: Evanescence @ Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne with Blaqk Audio & The Khyber Belt – 24th March 2012

Review By Billy Geary
The lead up to the release of Evanescence’s self titled album (their first in 5 years) was, put lightly, a tumultuous one. With rumours of break ups and the like, plenty wondered if we’d seen the last of them. Not to be killed off though, Evanescence finally made it back to Australia and on Saturday night, put on an excellent showcase of their vast catalogue of hits.

First up was Melbourne’s own The Khyber Belt, the lucky local band that was selected to open every show of the tour. For a band barely a year into gigging, it’s fair to say they’ve risen quickly within the Australian scene. Vocalist Forbes McKail was his usual energetic self, bounding around the huge stage. Closing their quick set with ‘We The People,’ taken off their debut EP

Tour News: KARNIVOOL – “Melodias Frescas” Tour | June-July 2012

Hola Ladies and Gentleman, if we may have your attention for a moment it would be greatly appreciated!

We here at Karnivool HQ are more than pleased to announce that the 10 legged beast that is Karnivool has now arisen from it’s slumbers, and has plans to get a little festive with their fans on the “ Melodias Frescas” tour which will see the band hit the highways through June and July. Yes folks, the “Melodias Frescas” tour, translation “Fresh Tunes”, will reveal to the world some of the band’s new material which has been agonised over in Perth over the past year. Tickets for Karnivool’s “Melodias Frescas” tour are on sale now!!

But wait… You ask. What have they been up to since last spotted in Oz?

Since Karnivool’s last Australian jaunt (a year ago), most of the time has been spent with various members taking a little bit of time off the road, or on the road with other projects, as well as tinkering around in a studio in Perth putting the bits and pieces of Karnivool’s third album together. The global success of “Sound Awake” meant nearly three years of touring globally, so it was definitely time for a little breather.

Tour News: The Gin Club and Texas Tea – Co-Headline Tour | March/April 2012

This week kicks off the tour between two of Australia’s finest bands. The indie-country-soul of Texas Tea with the 9-piece folk/rock/drinking songs collective The Gin Club.

It’s been almost two years since the release of Deathwish, The Gin Club’s critically acclaimed fourth album. Since then, the band (and their various side projects) have been busy. They’ve toured the country numerous times, done their traditional Christmas shows and relocated to every corner of the country (and the globe). Now, the nine-piece collective are set to release their first-ever live album, appropriately titled The Gin Club Live. Completely funded through crowd sourcing site IndieGoGo, the band raised over $8000 from fan pledges alone. The album has been assembled from a stockpile of shows recorded over their eight year history, including: a pair at the East Brunswick Club in Melbourne; their three CD launches at Brisbane’s Troubadour in 2010; a few festival appearances; and their set at The Troubadour’s last-ever night. Available now for purchase and streaming from The Gin Club Bandcamp page (http://theginclub.bandcamp.com).

Listen: Tara Simmons – Where Do You Go

“Now please be gone – ohah oh oh!” – a little phrase sassily delivered by Brisbane’s Tara Simmons that has saturated airwaves and been healthily supported by our nation’s own youth broadcaster since it was first delivered in November. The line is, of course, from ‘Be Gone’, the first single from the talented musician’s second full-length album which, we now can be reveal, will be called It’s Not Like We’re Trying To Move Mountains.

Interview: Chance Waters – “Infinity”

Interview by Stuart Blythe
Life Music Media caught up with Sydney hip-hop artist Chance Waters (formerly Phatchance) to discuss his latest recorded offering “Infinity”, touring, being an independent artist and more!

LMM: Tell us a little about Chance Waters

Chance Waters : Well, the bi-line reads Emotive, Independent Australian Hip-Hop. That covers it pretty well, the unabridged version would involve serial procrastinator, lover-not-a-fighter, vegan & facebook/twitter addict in desperate need of intervention, I also write songs when time permits.

LMM: Your latest single “Infinity” was produced by Adelaide’s One Above, who recently produced The Hilltop Hoods’ #1 Single ‘I Love It ft. Sia’
For fans who haven’t yet heard “Infinity”, how would you describe the sound and the vibe? Were you channelling any musical influences at the time of production?
