Interview: Amy Findlay – Stonefield
Interview by Chris Dornan
The most famous sisters from Darraweit Guim, Victoria are just about to hit the road on their BAD REALITY National Tour. They’ve had an exciting 12 months sharing the stage with such iconic bands as The Foo Fighters, Tenacious D and The Kaiser Chiefs and playing to huge crowds at The Glastonbury Festival, The Sunset Strip Music Festival and Big Day Out 2012. Just in case you’ve been living in a dark cave for the last three years without a radio, the band I’m speaking of is STONEFIELD.
We caught up with Amy Findlay, drummer and lead vocals from STONEFIELD prior to their BAD REALITY National Tour
Chris Dornan LifeMusicMedia: I Just had a listen to your new single “Bad Reality”. It’s got fresh new sounds with well written lyrics. Who wrote the single and where did the motivation and creativity come from to package it all together?
Amy Findlay: We all wrote the song together. We were finishing recording the first half our new EP and just as we were going into the studio to record the other half no one felt like we had our first single yet. We were kind of freaking out a little bit and putting a lot of pressure on ourselves. We just realised that we didn’t have to put so much pressure on ourselves and chill out and let it come naturally as we have in the past recordings. One day I just got the melody in my head and Hannah just played a few chords and it all just came together in a few minutes. It luckily was one of those songs that came along naturally.

Album News: Great Lake Swimmers – ‘New Wild Everywhere’
’New Wild Everywhere’ is the follow-up to Canadian band Great Lake Swimmers’ critically acclaimed, Polaris Music Prize shortlisted and Juno award nominated 2009 album ’Lost Channels’. Their fifth album in just under a decade, this new collection of 12 tracks reveals a depth and maturity previously only hinted at by lead singer and songwriter Tony Dekker.
Featuring the touring band from Lost Channels (with long-time collaborator Erik Arnesen on banjo and guitar, along with new addition Miranda Mulholland contributing backing vocals and violin, Bret Higgins on upright bass, and drummer Greg Millson), New Wild Everywhere thematically picks up where the previous album left off, exploring transcendence in the natural world to describe the universal themes of love, mortality and escape.

Tour News: Bellusira ‘Culprit’ Australian Tour 2012

One of the most prolific alternative rock bands to ever come out of Melbourne, Bellusira has raised the standard of the scene yet again. With the impending release of their latest single ‘Culprit’ to be dropped April 6th and a series of shows along the east coast, fans are waiting with bated breath for the highly anticipated new material and live performance from a band that has sold out every single launch to date.
Fronted by the dynamic Crystal Ignite and her creative partner in crime Mark Dalbeth, it hasn’t been an easy ride for Bellusira by any stretch of the imagination. So determined to reach their dreams, members found themselves moving countries, cities and even living on the streets. You can’t argue with results however, and having shared the stage with bands such as The Misfits, Dead Letter Circus and Floating Me, it seems putting in the hard yards and plenty of sacrifice has begun to pay off.

Tour News: Mutemath (USA) Australian Tour – May 2012
Principal Entertainment and triple j are proud to announce for the very first time in Australia, Grammy nominated New Orleans 3 piece, MUTEMATH. Since 2004 the genre bending trio featuring Paul Meany (vocals/keyboards), Roy Mitchell-Cardenas (bass/guitar), and Darren King (drums) have taken it upon themselves to deliver music that is unequivocally and defiantly their own.
Since releasing their first EP in late 2004, MUTEMATH’s inherent nature has challenged limitations and expanded parameters. By the time they released their 2006 self-titled debut, their blending of adverse genres into its own innovative sonically adventurous creation earned them a reputation as one of modern music’s most daring young groups.
