Misfits announce Australia & NZ Tour – January 2014

“One Heck Of A Ghouls Night Out”

When you think of a band that is defined as being outside the realms of what is punk, one of the first bands to spring to mind has to be the one and only Misfits. Myles Mayo – “A Love Like A Crucifix” (Official Music Video)

“A Love like a Crucifix” is the first taste of Myles’ second solo album, Myles Mayo & the Modern Heart, out 18 October 2013. Certainly not backward in coming forward, A Love like a Crucifix has been injected with a playful dose of cynicism and a sound that signifies a departure from that of his debut album. Carefully pieced together in his home studio in Adelaide with many friends from right across the country, the forthcoming, self-produced long player has been given much love. A Love like a Crucifix is just one of the many infectious tunes on this fine record.

Album Review: Los Chavos – “Supermeng”

Review by JOSE EDUARDO CRUZ
Canberra based Latin ska/cumbia outfit, Los Chavos, deliver their first long play and follow on in the great tradition of Australian Latin bands like Watussi and San Lazaro. Whilst this release is completely in Spanish, don’t let that deter you from picking this outstanding Australian Latin release. Supermeng is a mature release that reflects the evolution of Los Chavos as an experienced outfit. There are slight influences from Manu Chau, Calle 13 and Juanes which will delight every Latin music lover in Australia. Supermeng starts with an upbeat “Carlos Calvo” and builds up hitting a crescendo with a good paced merengue “Como Puedo”. The closing track “Reina” is a soulful exploration of love which closes an excellent debut for Los Chavos.

The Butterfly Effect’s New Vocalist Emerges On “Eyes Down”

The Butterfly Effect have ended the secrecy today, announcing their new singer Paul Galagher and releasing a new single to fans “Eyes Down”.

The band did a farewell run around the country with previous singer Clint Boge last year before re-emerging for the release of the DVD Effected, which topped the ARIA charts last month. With most expecting the band to extend their hiatus following its success, the band shocked fans with the mysterious posting of live dates last week and the signing of new management, leading to speculation as to their future plans.

Bec Laughton announces “Darkest Love” Tour

Brisbane’s indie soul songstress Bec Laughton may not be a name you recognise just yet, but this tiny redhead with a giant voice has a knack for penning a killer pop hook, and is soon to take over stages around Australia for her ‘Darkest Love’ tour.

An EP is also on its way, demonstrating Bec’s ability in hard hitting soul can venture from sweeping ballads to R&B tracks you can’t help but dance to. The production of the EP was beautifully unconventional with recordings from high-end studios in the USA to bedrooms in Brisbane. Each track was approached uniquely and features production from indie house/nu-disco producer Buré Godwin and bass/music guru Graham Ritchie (Emma Louise, Skinny Jean).

Róisín O – “Hold On” (Official Music Video)

The video is directed and edited by Simon Eustace, and features Aaron Heffernan (Love/Hate), Mirjana Rendulic, Geraldine McAlinden & Colin Condon. Special thanks to Dogpatch Labs Dublin.

Talking about Hold On, Róisín O explains:

“Sometimes our minds take us to dark places and it gets hard to escape. A very close friend of mine was going through a tough time, as happens us all, and I found myself wanting, but unable, to help make things better for him. Sometimes all you can do for someone is to be there for them and let them know that things will get better one day. This song is for him.”

Dark Tranquility announce Australian Tour – March 2014

Dark Tranquillity will finally be returning to tour Australia; it will be their first time back here since 2006. One of the pioneers of the Swedish Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal scene of the time, and, an iconic namesake in their own right, Dark Tranquillity has evolved into far more than a pigeon holed stereotype act akin to the region which has defined a genre of its own. Dark Tranquillity is the complete package; they have that emotional and captivating groove laden sound with enough melodic and crisp guitars which is nowadays filled with melancholic thought provoking hooks and music score; they have a charisma and aura uniquely defined and attached to everything they do; they are, in the true sense, standing alone yet leading the way for the evolution and continuation of acts that spawned from Sweden born of the Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal mould. Dark Tranquillity is entrenched in the hearts and souls of a gripping cross section demographic.
