John Waters – Looking Through A Glass Onion – Up Close & Personal 2014 Tour Dates Announced

“It’s clear that Looking Through A Glass Onion has stood the test of time and can be called now a classic piece of Australian repertoire”. Sydney Gig Guide Dec 10, 2011 **** 4 stars

In 1992, John Waters and Stewart D’Arrietta took to the small stage at the Tilbury Hotel, Woolloomooloo, Sydney with their debut production of “Looking Through A Glass Onion”. What was an initially a one week booking quickly sold out and extended into a six week, sell out season. Thus the original seed of “Looking For A Glass Onion” was born.

Fast forward, after a massive 137-date tour in 2010/2011/2012, John and Stewart are returning with their “up close and personal” 2 man show in 2014 whilst gearing up toward launching the production Off Broadway in New York.

Album Review: Stonefield – Stonefield (Debut Album)

Review by Natalie Salvo
Ever since they won Triple J’s Unearthed High in 2010 the four gorgeous Findlay sisters known as Stonefield (and previously Iotah) have had to face their fair share of criticism over their image and being discounted as a “teenage gimmick”. The quartet was surrounded by lots of hype as the band is made up of four sisters who range in age from being teenagers to in their early twenties. They also got to play Glastonbury festival quite early but they do have the talent to back it all up. On their eponymous, debut record they continue to thumb their noses at their detractors as they offer one solid and promising effort.

HOMEBAKE 2013 Cancelled

Homebake Promoters’ Announcement:

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce that HOMEBAKE 2013 has been cancelled.

From its inception in 1996 in Byron Bay, HOMEBAKE has been a staunch advocate and supporter of Australian music and of this country’s musicians.

In 1998 HOMEBAKE began its long association with the Domain as the preferred venue of choice, and for 15 years on the first Saturday in December, we came together to celebrate and support Australia’s best and brightest in music.

HOMEBAKE 2013 has proven to be a difficult beast to produce and promote due to scheduling issues with our ancestral home at the Domain. For reasons beyond our control or desire, and after a 15 year run, we were advised that for this year, the Domain had also confirmed another music festival that appealed to a similar audience and scheduled to run a mere 2 weeks before our proposed HOMEBAKE date.

Because of the commercial implications and risk of being one of two music festivals in the Domain two weeks apart, reluctantly our hand was forced to reconfigure and relocate HOMEBAKE from the usual one day event in the Domain to the Sydney Opera House over three days to celebrate HOMEBAKE’s 18th anniversary.

Over the last 4 weeks since the initial launch of HOMEBAKE 2013, it has become apparent based on the feedback from social media sites and the box office that the traditional HOMEBAKE fans have rejected this change in format from one day to three nights and the change in venue.

What is achingly ironic is the reason that forced the change in venue [and with it the format] cancelled shortly before HOMEBAKE 2013’s launch, but by then it was simply too late to revert back to our true home.

All in all, heartbreaking stuff ….

We here at HOMEBAKE HQ would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to the bands, to the fans, to all the hard working HOMEBAKE personnel and to our media champions and we would like to thank everyone for their input, support and contribution over the last 18 years in helping to shape HOMEBAKE as the premiere live showcase for our country’s finest musicians.

Long live Australian music and the artists that create it.”

Full refunds will be automatically administered by the Sydney Opera House Box Office (Ph: 02 9250 7777). Oztix ticket buyers should contact Oztix direct on 1300 762 545 or via email at http://tickets.oztix.com.au/contactus.aspx.

Album Review: Alex Lloyd – Urban Wilderness

Review by Natalie Salvo
It has been five years since Alex Lloyd released a solo album but in that time he had a break like John Lennon. He was busy caring for his brood of children (he now has four) and was busy writing music for other acts (like Passenger) plus producing and working on soundtracks (including collaborating with the Pigram Brothers for the Mad Bastards OST). This period – like much of his career – has been a rich and varied one and this is also the most striking element on his sixth studio record.

Urban Wilderness was written in a piecemeal fashion with one of the tracks dating back as far as 2008. It covers his time spent living abroad in Queens Park in the UK and his return home to the Central Coast in 2012. The title hints at being lost in a sea of uncertainty and this is reflective of Lloyd’s initial mindset with regards to returning to solo music. This changed though, when he shared his demos with artist and producer, Shane Nicholson (who is famous for his collaborations with his then-wife, Kasey Chambers). Nicholson pushed Lloyd and insisted that he had an album and the rest is all history.

Charlie Horse – “Strange Passengers” Album Tour – Oct-Dec 2013

After enchanting critics and audiences alike with the lull of their single Dark Water, and slaying support slots for the likes of Swervedriver and Ash, Charlie Horse have finally released their sophomore album, Strange Passengers. The release will be bolstered by a slew of scintillating live shows both home and abroad.

When Paul McDonald and Crystal Rose met by chance in a Balmain pub and bonded over 70’s Springsteen, Neil Young and Ryan Adams it was the start of a romance that also led to the creation of the passionate, widescreen rock n roll of Charlie Horse. The hotly anticipated follow-up to 2012’s I Hope I Am Not a Monster, Strange Passengers began to emerge between the summer and winter of 2013 with songs that were more diversely-styled than their previous offering, some of which were road-tested at support slots with Stan Ridgway (Wall of Voodoo) and Ash and as East Coast tour guests of Brisbane’s We All Want To.
