The New Pornographers – “Together” Australian Tour November 2010 [Tour News]

In celebration of their fifth album, “Together”, Canadian-US super-collective The New Pornographers are primed to make their return to Australia this November. As perfect a pop outfit as you’re ever likely to find, The New Pornographers have always dreamed of finding a middle ground between Led Zeppelin and The 5th Dimension, which as it turns out is actually quite a good way of describing their mix of deceptively complex songwriting combined with glimmering hooks and arena-like power.

And as Australian punters are more than aware the bright yet often bittersweet nature of what they do, including all those wonderful vocal harmonies, is an even better experience in the live setting.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS FOR GOLD COAST’S BIGGEST PARTY – Armor All Gold Coast 600

Tony Cochrane – V8 Supercars Australia Chairman – is on record saying that the Armor All Gold Coast 600 is the ‘party the Gold Coast has to have’, and that party officially started today.

Construction has begun on the famous Gold Coast street circuit some five weeks later than usual, a deliberate move to substantially decrease the build time of the shortened layout.

The first overhead bridge crossing the Gold Coast Highway was installed this morning, and proudly displays the catch phrase ‘Get the party started’ to Gold Coast travelers as the countdown to the October 22-24 event continues.

The Holidays – Debut Album Release & National Headline Tour – October 2010

Sydney foursome The Holidays’ debut album, Post Paradise, may have been a long time coming, but it has absolutely been worth the wait.

Post
Post Paradise (Bonus Track Version) – The Holidays
The band commenced writing the album early last year and a metamorphosis of sorts gradually began to take place. They’ve left behind the simplicity of their earlier indie guitar sound and took aboard new influences where both the groove and layers were equally as rewarding as the glistening pop hooks. A steady guiding hand also came from one of the country’s premier mixers, Tony Espie (Avalanches, Midnight Juggernauts, Cut Copy).

On first listen brand new single Broken Bones is as unassuming as a late summer stroll but then consistently uncovers more and more layers to reveal a luscious, tropical experience.

ZIGGY, THE SONGS OF DAVID BOWIE – November 2010

If there’s one pop artist that multiple generations can relate to its David Bowie. There’s always a tinge of nostalgia listening to Bowie’s mellifluous tones whether it is listening to the Man Who Fell To Earth, Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane or of course The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, which signified his ‘comeback’ in 1972 after a brief lull in his pop career.

ZIGGY, THE SONGS OF DAVID BOWIE pays homage to Bowie, the pop phenomenon – the influential individualist with the uncanny ability to push boundaries and transform himself and the world around him. Performed by four of Australia’s leading contemporary musicians and performers – iOTA, Jeff Duff, Steve Balbi and Brydon Stace – Ziggy, the Songs of David Bowie is as multi-dimensional as the man himself.

Cantina @ The Spiegeltent (Brisbane Festival) 5th September 2010 – Live Review

Review: Lana Harris

Have you heard the one about the Spiegeltent? A girl and a guy walk into this travelling bar – a pointy topped sphere shaped by mirrors, wood and glass. Golden poles, blood red velvet curtains swooping overhead, low lighting and dancing shadows. Smoky. Drinks service on the curve, booths hugging the circumference. A big-top boudoir with an audience.

The girl and the guy start out cautious in this ringmaster’s playground. They clamber carefully onto the high wire – wobble and steady, wobble and steady. She wears a pair of lasciviously red heels as she teeters. The shoes return sporadically throughout the acts, as do the scene setting ukulele and tinkling pianola. Music through out invokes alternately past, present and future – offered in no particular order. Subject to whims and acrobatics, time periods depart and return often.

Regurgitator National Tour 2010 – September 2010

RegurgitatorRegurgitator
After dipping toes in the bubbling grease of contemporary dance for Rockshow in Nov 2009 they dropped the strainer in the chip fryer, frittered away on some new years festival appearances along with a few shows in the past few months. Back in their classic 3 piece mode, after approaching Rockshow in this guise, and with Seja embarking on her own solo career they recently played some stand out performances (including Seja’s last keyboard stand with them) at the Brisbane Powerhouse 10th birthday… and sold out shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Back on the fries… they saturate the wrapper with new recordings, new tourings and a new soundtrack to cult classic Akira.
