Felicity Ward is very honest. Painfully, brilliantly, hilariously honest.
Familiar to television audiences from her work on The Ronny Johns Half Hour and regular guest spots on the ABC’s Spicks and Specks and Channel 7’s Thank God You’re Here, the comedian is about to bring her self-depreciating, disarmingly charming self to Brisbane in her new show, Honestly.
One of David Williamson’s most celebrated plays, The Removalists, is set to make a return to the Brisbane stage as one of the QTC’s education performances. An examination of police corruption, domestic violence and sexism in 1970s Australia, this new production begs the question, “How far have we really come?”
Working to recreate the look and feel of those times is production designer Simone Romaniuk, an Affiliate Artist with the QTC this year. A graduate of both NIDA and the Queensland College of Art, and with credits that span film, television and especially theatre, including the STC, Pacific Opera and Sydney Dance Company among others, Romaniuk took a break from the slightly abstract set and retro furnishings of The Removalists to share some insight with Life Music Media. W – Scott Kent, also known as rapper Wolverine, adopted the persona of the famous Marvel comic creation, full of rage and the unbreakable metal adamantium, long before Hugh Jackman brought the character to movie screens. And while Jackman honed his craft at the prestigious
Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Kent also spent years honing his in Perth, except he did it in cyphers, studios and live shows around the city. With his three solo albums,two mixtapes and incredible production output,players nationwide need adamantium speakers.
He has also performed at some of Australia’s premier live venues, and his intense live show has seen him share the stage with acts including Blackalicious, Method Man, Redman, Gza, Muggs, Foreign Legion, Brad Strut, Art of War, Downsyde, Hospice Crew, Bias B, The Funkoars and SBX.
It’s been a long road,But Wolverine is about to be unleashed into the national spotlight.
LMM: You album “Summertime Vibe” was released recently, tell us about your process of song writing?
W – As far as writing goes,i write in a free flowing way almost the same as freestyling,what ever pops into my head when i’m listening to a beat is what goes down,i rarely edit my lyrics,i tend to do it when recording too its normally first or second takes are the one’s on the record,it’s like jazz improvisation,if i make a mistake i dont like to edit it too much,i feel it gives a more human touch to the recording,its not all polished.

:: If you could join another band, who would you choose? :: Lachlan: Oh… (thinks) There’s too many bands. Clayton: Do they have to be alive? Lachlan: I would’ve loved to have been in Tower of Power, I think,
when I was younger. That would’ve been amazing. Clayton: That would’ve been pretty cool, yeah.

DANDY WARHOLS guitarist PETER HOLSTROM chats briefly about the band’s upcoming Australian tour (2011), and the way cash and creativity affect each other. “It felt like after we did Parklife we hadn’t really performed to our fans,” a laid-back sounding Peter Holstrom says.
“We’d performed to a lot of people who were going to a dance music festival, and that was fun and great but we needed to come back and do shows for our fans, the ones who didn’t want to spend however much it was for a festival ticket to just see a few bands that they might like on it.”
The decadent rock outfit’s strong touring relationship with Australia can be traced back to their visit in 2000, on the back of their landmark album Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia. When they walked onstage for their Livid Festival set, they were met with such a screaming wall of white noise from the audience that they changed their set list on the spot, opening with the high-paced feedback dirge “Fast Driving Raveup With the Dandy Warhols”. BM – You’ve toured the country quite extensively in your short musical career – what have you been looking forward to most about this tour with Oh Mercy?
HC – I have been very lucky to support some amazing australian acts on their tours. I really enjoy getting to experience a different crowd in every town/city and it’s a joy to be able to watch Oh Mercy play their set every night.
BM – How has the tour been treating you so far?
