Bloc Party announce Future Music Festival sideshows – March 2013

Future Entertainment have confirmed that Bloc Party will play an exclusive run of East Coast sideshows whilst on tour in Australia for the Future Music Festivals this March.

A band that needs little introduction, Bloc Party rose to fame in the mid-2000s with a unique and undeniable sound that set them apart from everything else in the market. Hailing from the UK, it wasn’t long before these 4 Brits had the world paying some very serious attention. Seamlessly managing to set the tone and the benchmark for cool, whilst leaving every other indie-rock band in their proverbial wake, Bloc Party are without a doubt one of the most sought after bands on the planet!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor supports announced!

This February seminal Canadian post-rock collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor bring their heartrending live show to Australia for the first time. The band will headline shows in Sydney, Brisbane and a sold out Forum Theatre in Melbourne in February, as well as performing at Perth Festival and ATP’s ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’.

An extremely limited allocation of tickets to the sold out Melbourne show on February 15th will be released this week. Tickets will go on sale at 12pm AEDT, this Wednesday the 23rd, via the Handsome Tours mailing list.

Live Review – Big Day Out – Gold Coast 2013

The Sunday set for the Gold Coast Big Day Out 2013 dawned hot and sunny as around the state thousands packed themselves into cars, shuttle buses and trains and headed to the Parklands.

There were those who arrived early, queuing eagerly at the gates with tickets in hands and starting the party with top-notch openers like the rocketing-towards-stardom Sydney two piece Toucan and the magnificent DJ Helena, who kick-started the burgeoning crowds’ energy.

Then there were those who waited out the sun to arrive later for the big names on the bill, with Grinspoon’s mid-afternoon efforts pulling the first really big crowd of the day. Hard Act to Follow and Thrills, Kills and Sunday Pills had the crowd singing as one and from a distance the moving sea of hands and bodies seemed to swell with excitement under the masterful conducting of the band’s front man Phil Jamieson.

Shake, Quake and Shiver the Night Away

The new wave is coming – get ready for a night of fresh, atmospheric, mysterious shiver pop. February 7th will see Brisbane’s The Zoo hosting three bands bursting with pop hooks, post-rock impact and swirls of heady reverb. Ticket proceeds from the night will be donated to Furry Friends Animal Rescue QLD, a grassroots charity dedicated to finding homes and medical care for animals. With a raffle full of band goodies also being held, this is a night that will be making a difference for an important local organization.
