THOUSAND NEEDLES IN RED have travelled a long road since the group formed in early 2010. A chance meeting between vocalist Clint Boge and guitarist Trizo at a Crusty Demons show in Ipswitch QLD in 2009, lead to the two forming a formidable songwriting partnership early the following year. |
With Clint based in Brisbane and Trizo in Sydney, the two began writing together online via Skype. Writing this way certainly did not affect the palpable chemistry in the music. Quite the contrary – Their self titled 7-track EP from early 2010 created an instant buzz for the way it was both levitating and gut-level. Thousand Needles In Red found a whole new-excited audience waiting when they hit the road behind the record.
The group recorded and released two more singles the same year; the self-produced ‘Brand New Day’, and the Jeff Martin produced epic ‘Into Eternity’.
Thousand Needles In Red quickly went from playing to less than a hundred people in small pubs to sell-out crowds in big venues across the country.
In July this year, the band entered Loose Stones studios on the Gold Coast to begin work on their debut album ‘Empires’.
The album was officially released on iTunes Friday 16th September. By the following day ‘Empires’ reached #4 on the iTunes Australian Top 10 Rock Albums Chart.
The album also debuted at #10 on the AIR Independent Albums Chart, #6 on the AIR independent Hard Rock & Punk Albums Chart, #33 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart and #37 on the ARIA Digital Albums Chart. Not a bad achievement by a one hundred percent independent band barely eighteen months old!
The self-produced ‘Empires’ sees the band at full throttle and at the peak of their powers with crowd pleasers ‘Marble Arc’, ‘Misery’, ‘Hold The Line’, ‘Scars’, ‘When You Go’ and of course ‘Into Eternity’ all included.
Trizo’s guitar onslaught throughout the album is simply mind blowing. But it’s not all pedal to the metal though, the beautifully crafted acoustic ballad ‘Darkness Meets The Day’ showcases Clint Boges’s incredible vocal prowess. ‘Empires’ is proof that Independent Australian Rock is alive and kicking!
