After the tantalising announcement of The Set List, a brand spanking new initiative that gets up-and-coming bands touring around regional Australia, comes the reveal that we’ve all been waiting with baited breath for.
That’s right, we’ve got all of the dates and locations for I Know Leopard, Coin Banks and Montaigne’s regional tours!
Thanks to funding from the Australia Council’s Playing Australia program, these three talented artists will be hitting venues everywhere from Mackay to Hobart to Geraldton.
The Set List shows are part of an exciting new regional touring opportunity created by Arts On Tour for young emerging musicians. Designed to help reach new audiences for some of the country’s hottest new acts, The Set List makes regional touring financially possible and gives young people in regional areas the chance to get involved with putting on a professional music show.
Aimed at 16-22 year olds, The Set List offers a range of opportunities for local youth to get involved with the project including poster design competitions, music journalism, the chance to be part of the tech crew, a support band spot and various mentoring opportunities.
Arts On Tour General Manager Heather Dransfield says The Set List is a great way to provide ways for young people to engage with the arts through their local performing arts centres.
“The Set List shows there are many ways to join the live music world and being a musician is only one of them. Music writers, promoters, tech crews and even graphic designers are all helping to make the music world go ‘round. We’re hoping that The Set List will open some of those doors for young music fans,” says Heather.
“Discovering new music and attending live gigs are formative moments for young people and become powerful bookmarks in their lives. The Set List is all about providing young people with an unforgettable live music experience. Our project allows our youth to enjoy the same music experiences available to their major city counterparts each weekend.”
Luke O’Loughlin of I Know Leopard says the band could not be more excited to be a part of ‘The Set List’.
“It really is a great opportunity for us to connect with audiences that otherwise might be out of our reach at this stage of our career. We get to see some beautiful parts of Australia too.”
Co-Owner/Director of Wonderlick Entertainment, Gregg Donovan – who manages Montaigne – says The Set List gives developing artists the ability to start building regional followings which traditionally are too expensive to take on at this early stage of their career.
“Because of that, many Australian artists fail to build a fan base regionally at all. These regional towns have a fantastic network of theatres, events, venues and experienced production staff. This initiative also gives them the chance to share their knowledge and connections with the next generation of up & coming regional arts & entertainment workers. It’s just what the doctor ordered,” he says.
