The Owls – ‘Swamp Love’ EP and East Coast Tour

The Owls – ‘Swamp Love’ EP and East Coast Tour.

Since forming in 2008, Newcastle four-piece The Owls have been plowing their sonic fields, harvesting a unique sound from their huge variety of influences. Mashing together elements of dirty blues and alternative rock with lashings of progressive southern rock all topped off with ethereal three-part harmonies. It all blends together seamlessly, and now with the release of their EP ‘Swamp Love’ (in stores and online November 9th), it’s as evident as ever, The Owls are a force to be reckoned with.

The debut single ‘Go, Let It Go’ from their first EP catapulted them onto Triple J and community radio waves and stages around the country, including the 2010 Fat as Butter Festival and the Jack Daniels Set Competition in WA, as well as sharing stages with the likes of The Living End, Gyroscope, The Jezabels, Ball Park Music and Cloud Control.

In 2012, The Owls returned with ‘Better Off Deaf’, the first single from EP number two ‘Swamp Love’. Featuring the crunching guitars The Owls are known for, coupled with singer Josh Bailey’s signature drawl, it is fast becoming a fan favourite. The EP showcases their wide variety of influences; title track ’Swamp Love’ is a slightly reserved stoned rocker, the band locking together into an unwavering groove, that doesn’t slip. EP closer ‘Comprende’ is a country-tinged acoustic number, featuring a southern-styled percussive background and airy three-part harmonies.

The Owls have been destroying stages left, right and centre this year, including winning the local band competition to play the Butter Stage at this year’s Fat as Butter Festival and sharing stages with British India and Hunting Grounds, and their own East Coast Tour in July. And now with the announcement of their ‘Swamp Love’ EP Tour throughout November and December, The Owls will cap off another successful year doing what they do best. Get down to a show before they skyrocket. You have been warned.
