THE NATIONAL 2011 AUSTRALIAN SIDESHOWS ANNOUNCED!

A debonair sense of grace and poise. Richly resonant, profound and somehow understated music that affects head and heart in equal measure. Yep, it sounds like The National are on their way to Australia.

Brooklyn’s favourite smouldering, slow burn indie-rock sons, The National are here for the dream lineup defining the Harvest music and art festivals taking place in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in November. These sideshows from The National now take the band beyond the east coast for exciting appearances in Perth and Adelaide.

The band’s last three albums, High Violet, Boxer and Alligator have each featured highly in critics ‘album of the year’ charts. But as the Sydney Morning Herald said on The National’s last tour here, “More than a decade into their career, the band finally turned their long-term critical backing into commercial success, making the top five on both sides of the Atlantic with their fifth album, last year’s High Violet.”

High Violet has gone on to sell over 500,000 copies worldwide, reaching Gold Album status in the UK, Ireland, Denmark and Belgium, and being awarded a Q award for Best Album. Be sure you find out what all the fuss is rightly about!

New York via Washington, D.C. band, indie-rockers The Walkmen are special guests for The National for these Perth and Adelaide concerts. Noted for their love of vintage instruments, especially upright piano, The Walkmen first broke through in 2002. Their most recent album, Lisbon, follows 2008’s You & Me, which landed on numerous year-end “best of” lists including among others NPR, Pitchfork and Stereogum – also receiving five stars from The Guardian who described the album as “intimate, intense and beautiful,” while Pitchfork called it “the sound they’ve reached for since the beginning.”
