The New Orleans native began his career as a bandleader at the young age of six, toured internationally at age 12, and spent his teens playing with various brass bands throughout New Orleans and touring worldwide with Lenny Kravitz.

tromboneNew Orleans based Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue are a hard-edged Funk band that employ Hip-Hop beats, Rock dynamics and improvisation in a Jazz tradition. The band has toured the U.S. and Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, Russia and Brazil. Trombone Shorty began his career as a bandleader at the tender age of six, and toured internationally for the first time age 12 before joining Lenny Kravitz’s horn section at 19 for a 105-date world tour in 2005/06.

Live Review | Bluesfest 2011 – Day Two, Featuring: Rodrigo y Gabriela, B.B. King, Fistful of Mercy, Jack Thompson & the Original Sinners and RocKwiz Live

Early birds and trivia buffs rocked up to the Jambalaya Tent on Friday to test their skill and perhaps earn a place on the panel of RocKwiz Live. Cracking the proverbial whip and vetting the various hopefuls was producer and co-host of the SBS series Brian Nankervis who after seven years with the show has it down to a fine art. Appearing across four days of the festival, Friday’s first taste had host and improv queen Julia Zemiro in top form, and featured musical guests Tim Rodgers (You Am I), Marcia Hines and Glenn Richards (Augie March), as well as a couple of impressive punters whose extensive music trivia knowledge was bested only by their brazen karaoke efforts, one contestant whipping out a harmonica and riffing with the impeccable RocKwiz Orkestra. A highly entertaining start to the afternoon, Richards, Hines and Rogers blasting Kiss’ I Wanna Rock and Roll All Nite, the icing on the cake.

Bluesfest 2011 consolidates supersonic line up with class 2nd artist announcement!

The Soul, the Funk and the Blues pumping up anticipation for 22nd Bluesfest happiness

Bluesfest from Byron Bay, Australia’s favourite counter-culture, family-orientated, artistically diverse music festival, today unveiled its SECOND artist announcement – and what an array it is of classic and contemporary blues, soul, funk, reggae and much more!

Tickets are on sale for Bluesfest, the 2010 Australian Event of the Year, and are selling very fast. The festival dates next year over Easter are from Thursday April 21 through to Monday April 25, 2011.
