STONEFEST 2011 LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT!

After the huge success of STONEFEST 2010, The Frontier Touring Company and University of Canberra’s UC Live! have teamed up again to present the lineup for the much-awaited STONEFEST 2011 taking place on Saturday 29 October.

Throughout Stonefest’s massive 43 years of activity, the festival consistently showcases the newest, most exciting and diverse acts around and 2011 is no exception. This year’s lineup boasts the freshest and finest Aussie talent spread across three spectacular stages, a new format introduced this year to give you more bang for your buck!

On the THE SUPERSTAGE, alt-rock favourites JEBEDIAH are set to shake up Stonefest 2011. Off the back of their triumphant set at Splendour in the Grass comes the exciting news that their latest single, ‘She’s Like A Comet’ has gone Gold on the ARIA charts. Formed in 1994 and still producing hits and reaching new fans, Jebediah are truly one of the greatest Aussie bands of recent decades. Also fresh from Splendour in the Grass and a swag of sideshows, THE GRATES will continue their run of live appearances with a much anticipated set at Stonefest 2011. After five years of touring the world with their first two critically acclaimed albums, The Grates’ latest effort Secret Rituals has been an immediate hit with a bolder and tougher approach that sees the band live up to their stellar reputation. Festival veterans THE VINES are a live act to be reckoned with and are always a thrill to watch. With the June release of their latest album Future Primitive The Vines are well and truly back with songs such as ‘Gimme Love’ fast becoming classics. Lyrical genius JOSH PYKE will grace the Superstage at Stonefest with his undeniably catchy and infectious brand of song writing. After the success of his previous two ARIA Award-winning Gold selling records, Memories and Dust (2007) and Chimney’s Afire (2008) comes his latest offering Only Sparrows (out August 19). Crowds will be eager to hear what Pyke has been working on with the first taste, triple j favourite ‘No One Wants A Lover’, already causing a stir on the airways. JONATHAN BOULET hails from Sydney’s northwest and makes a brand of ceremoniously uplifting, deeply colourful pop including the triumphant single ‘You’re A Animal’ a mere taste of the forthcoming record due early 2012. The immensely talented STONEFIELD sisters have been causing a buzz here and overseas, recently performing at the iconic Glastonbury festival. Now they’re home to showcase their psychedelic rock alongside recent success story REDCOATS whose heavy riffs and rock splendour will impress crowds. Native pop-punk duo CRASH THE CURB will be opening the Superstage on the day as well as the very lucky yet-to-be-announced winners of triple j’s annual ‘Unearthed’ competition and PURPLE SNEAKERS DJs will be hitting the decks so there’s never a dull moment between sets on the Superstage.

Over on the UC REFECTORY STAGE the heat will be turned up as punters dance the day away. Canberra locals THE ASTON SHUFFLE are quickly becoming one of Australia’s premier electronic talents. The duo’s radio segment ‘Friday Night Shuffle’ is a triple j favourite and they have recently been named the No. 1 DJs in the country after coming in at the top of Australia’s biggest DJ poll, the inthemix50. To top it all off their debut album Seventeen Past Midnight has been released to critical acclaim and fanfare. Since the release of his sophomore album The Chase in late 2010, deemed by J Mag as “…one of the country’s best hip-hop releases”, Melbourne emcee ILLY has become one of the most prominent hip-hop acts in the country. Collaborators Sam La More and Groove Terminator join forces once again as TONITE ONLY to the joy of club-revellers and as you would expect from such a high profile reunion, they are back stronger than ever with recent smash single and ARIA chart topper ‘We Run The Night’, re-energised and rebuilt with an arsenal of fresh productions and the same spark that made them so on-point to start with. Also appearing on the day will be Aussie hip hop star PEZ who was recently a key player in ‘The Line’ – an initiative nationally campaigning against physical violence with a live touring component. Joining the lineup is his fellow campaigner, Melbourne rapper 360 best known for tracks such as ‘Just Got Started’ and new single ‘Throw It Away’ (featuring Josh Pyke). The smooth beats of FLIGHT FACILITIES who gave us the hit single ‘Crave You’ last summer will whisk you away into utter bliss and SAMPOLOGY’s AV/DJ set will entice both your eyes and your ears. Australian rap duo DIAFRIX will be there, riding high off the success of their smash hit ‘Simple Man’ and international touring success including a stint at Glastonbury. No strangers to the Canberra music scene, D’OPUS AND ROSHAMBO and the talented DEPT OF DEFIANCE will light up the urban/dance focused stage and keep it hot, hot, hot whilst JEMIST keep you going between all sets.

On the ZIERHOLZ STAGE are indie darlings currently making all the right noises in the Australian music scene. Brisbane band BALL PARK MUSIC can’t wait to share material from their unreleased debut Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs with Stonefest crowds, you can’t deny their catchy hooks and singalong choruses. OWL EYES’ melodies will sweep you off your feet, the beautiful Brooke Addamo has been touring her new single ‘Raiders’ from the eponymously named EP and was a real hit on the summer festival circuit this year. Speaking of melodies, there’s no one more memorable than new Ivy League Records signing LANIE LANE – even Jack White consents, having recently invited her over to the US to record with him. HUNTING GROUNDS are enjoying their new moniker having formerly been known as Howl and look forward to seeing their new single ‘In Colour’ get the Stonefest crowd moving this October. Dynamic duo BIG SCARY are getting ready to release their debut album Vacation in October and if first single ‘Mix Tape’ is anything to go by, it’s going to charm the pants off you. Few can manage the hybrid of old blues and country nostalgia with a cheeky snarl, luckily there’s THE SNOWDROPPERS. Taking that cheek to public transport and any topic he can get his hands on is THE BEDROOM PHILOSOPHER whose solo tour this month has taken him a long way from the 86 Tram. 12-man music machine VELOCIRAPTOR are more of an orchestra than a band, and a mighty fine one at that – often deemed one of the most exciting live groups of the moment. Canberra’s very own indie pop gang FUN MACHINE and genre-blending VACANT FIELD bring a burst of local love to the festival.

To round it all off the Silent Party is returning in 2011 and is sure to have festival-goers busting out their best moves to the beats provided by hosts THE HUMP DAY PROJECT and able supports Strangeways DJs, Pang! DJs, Architect DJs, PARTY BY JAKE DJs, Swim Team DJs, MUM DJs & M.I.T.
