Siobhan Cotchin ‘How Does It Feel’ – New Single + Tour Dates

Coming off the back of a wildly successful BIGSOUND campaign, Perth’s Siobhan Cotchin has returned with a stunning new piece of music in ‘How Does It Feel?’. With the release of the single today, Cotchin also shares the news of her national tour taking place in December and January.

The track incorporates all the elements of Cotchin’s artistry that has been striking a chord with a growing national audience: a natural, rich musicianship and emotive lyricism. And yet, there is a fresh air to ‘How Does It Feel?’ that further proves that this WA artist is standing out as one of the West Coast’s most engaging and exciting new exports in recent years.

2022 has seen Cotchin emerge as a nominations leader for this year’s WAM Awards, picking up five nods, before going on to win in three categories; Best EP, Best Vocalist & Best Country Act.

How Does It Feel?’ saw Cotchin return to Tone City Recordings, where she worked on the track in studio with producer and label owner Sam Ford (Abbe May, Birds of Tokyo, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets). Sonically, it veers into more rock territory, with Cotchin letting influences from artists like Smashing Pumpkins, Hole and more fly.

“I had the lyrics for a while and wrote the melody and chords after watching a Baby Animals documentary. I was so inspired by Suzie DeMarchi and her powerful vocals and just pure rock n roll energy, so I wanted to recreate it in my own way.” – SIOBHAN COTCHIN

The track is evocative and passionate, with Cotchin’s vocals edging on the heart wrenching side of things as she pours aching and vulnerability onto the record.

“‘How Does It Feel’ is about being with someone that doesn’t give you exactly what you deserve. Instead of returning the love you give them, they just take it and take you for granted. The message I want listeners to take away from this song is to never change for someone else and know your worth.” SIOBHAN COTCHIN

2022 has been a huge year for Siobhan Cotchin, with momentum surrounding her music growing exponentially. Her appearance at BIGSOUND in Brisbane this September put her on the radar of a significant portion of national industry figures, some in person for the first time.

Along with her showcases in Brisbane, Cotchin has also made the most of her appearances at festivals including Busselton’s Good Day Sunshine Fest, the Country Sounds Music Festival out in Brunswick, WA and supporting artists including The Whitlams, Leon Bridges, Thelma Plum, The Teskey Brothers and more.
