One of the biggest Aussie music line-ups in history are set to rock Werribee Park this November for the inaugural ONE ELECTRIC DAY. Jimmy Barnes, The Angels, James Reyne, The Black Sorrows, Ross Wilson and Boom Crash Opera will share the same stage in this massive afternoon event, which is the brainchild of Regional Touring promoter Duane McDonald. This is a once in a life-time opportunity to see some of the country’s most respected live performers doing what they do best!
After putting on a show with Jimmy Barnes at Werribee Park three years ago, Duane put the plans in motion for ONE ELECTRIC DAY, an event which he sees returning to the region annually. “Finally we are ready to rock,” he says. “The Great Lawn is a magnificent setting for the ONE ELECTRIC DAY and we look forward to presenting an annual first class event. These acts define a generation. To have them all together on the one day is every music lovers dream. It will be hit after hit all afternoon.”
Jimmy Barnes needs no introduction to Aussie audiences. As a legend both from his time fronting Cold Chisel to his top charting solo career, Barnes has toured the breadth of Australia. With 16 solo albums under his belt, he has an enviable back catalogue that makes for incredible live performances with songs like Working Class Man, When Your Love Is Gone and No Second Prize to name a few. Following on from his busy touring schedule with both Cold Chisel and his solo shows, this is a chance for rock fans to see Jimmy Barnes at his best and enjoy an extensive catalogue which has made him an icon in the Australian music scene. In addition to working on material for a forthcoming album, Barnes is geared up to bring his live show packed with all the hits to his fans including ‘Pleasure House’ – a new track written with Jackson and Harrison Freud.
When it comes to great Aussie rock, it doesn’t come much better than The Angels. It’s been almost four decades since brothers Rick and John Brewster co-founded the iconic band and over the years they’ve penned some of Australia’s most anthemic tracks. The Angels have seen line-up changes but they’ve always maintained that pure Australian rock sound and are widely reputed for their killer live shows. Fronted now by Dave Gleeson – of The Screaming Jets fame – The Angels recently released an album of new material, garnering themselves a whole new fan base and proving it’s all about good rock! Since Dave joined the band two years ago, he has earned the respect of die-hard fans and is now settled as a permanent part of the band. With hits like Long Line, Marseille, Be With You, After the Rain, Shadow Boxer and Mr Damage to name a few, audiences will be in for a treat when The Angels take to the stage.
James Reyne has been treading the boards in the rock halls of Australian music for decades. From his time fronting the legendary Australian Crawl through to his successful solo career, James’ music is part of Australian history. As a prolific songwriter and strong vocalist, it’s no surprise that James has won accolade after accolade for his contribution to music. All of Australian Crawl’s albums earned Top 5 status in the charts, winning band, music and video awards, while James himself scored Best Male Vocalist gongs. With songs like Reckless, Australian Crawl is part of Aussie music history. When the band split in the mid-1980s, James embarked on a solo career. His debut self-titled solo album went triple platinum and included three Top 10 singles. Since then, he hasn’t looked back, or stopped producing great music.
Another icon of Australian music, Joe Camilleri, will be bringing his legendary band The Black Sorrows to the ONE ELECTRIC DAY concert. An incredible songwriter, Joe penned some unforgettable hits with The Black Sorrows, from tracks like Harley & Rose, Dear Children, The Chosen Ones, Never Let Me Go and Chained to the Wheel to Hold On To Me and New Craze, any live show is guaranteed to get audeinces on their feet dancing. After the success of his first band Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons, Joe pulled together a group of musicians and launced The Black Sorrows. Since then, the band have sold more than a million albums world-wide, toured Europe (to sell-out shows) and won an ARIA for Best Band. Over the past decades, the line-up of The Black Sorrows has been ‘elastic’ and has been home to about 40 musicians, all who have hung their hats on Joe’s beloved songs. Joe Camilleri also has an established solo career.
Ross Wilson is another artist who needs no introduction to music lovers. As the force behind bands such as Mondo Rock and Daddy Cool, he has been twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Known as ‘Mr Eagle Rock’, the Daddy Cool classic Eagle Rock is one of the biggest rock hits to come out of Australia. Other songs from the band such as Come Back Again are crowd favourites. Add to this popular songs from Mondo Rock such as Come Said The Boy, State of the Heart and Cool World, and it’s no surprise that Wilson is one of Australia’s most enduring and beloved performers. Wilson has also had success as a solo artist and a prolific career as a songwriter, penning tracks that have been covered by the likes of Jimmy Barnes, DEF-FX, Custard, Troy Cassar-Daley, Christine Anu and Lee Kernaghan to name a few. Fans will recognise his songwriting in the John Farnham hit A Touch of Paradise. Any concert with Ross Wilson on the bill promises to be something spectacular.
With songs like Onion Skin, Hands Up In the Air, Bettadaze and The Best Thing to name a few, Boom Crash Opera embody the spirit of 80s and 90s Australian rock. With Melbourne-based Dale Ryder on vocals, there are few Aussie music fans who wouldn’t be familiar with the band’s impressive back catalogue. Boom Crash Opera smashed onto the music scene with their debut single Great Wall in the mid-80s and never looked back. Described as one of the country’s most underestimated pop phenomenons, it is in their live shows that Boom Crash Opera really shine. A Boom Crash Opera show ensures audiences are on their feet from the start to the finish, an enviable quality for a band.
