Taking cues from the likes of IDLESFontaines D.C. and The Peep Temple, ‘Labour In Vain’ is a triumphant battle cry not to live your life for others; a reminder that fear only holds control over you if you allow it to. Led by the commanding vocals of endearing frontman Bryn Chapman Parish, the track maintains an unrelenting pace set by its wall of searing guitars, steadfast bass and thunderous drums.

Bryn talks about the meaning behind ‘Labour in Vain’:

“Throughout the last few years, thanks to a bunch of therapy, I’ve realised how much weight I put on the opinions of others. A back-breaking amount of weight, in fact. I’m in the uniquely frustrating position of being a socially anxious extrovert. On the one hand, I’m a social butterfly who craves constant interaction. But on the other, I’ve spent countless nights fretting over a stranger’s opinion and endless mornings regretting interactions and replaying conversations. ‘Labour In Vain’ is a battle cry to triumph over the fear of judgements of others. This song is a love letter to being a better you, acknowledging your shit and working through it. But more importantly, to be happy with who you are without the validation of others.”

To coincide with the release, the band will launch the single live at the House of Music and Booze, St. Peters, on Friday, October 28. Mac The Knife have previously sold-out headline shows in Eora/Sydney and shared stages with the likes of Polish ClubTriple OneJohnny Hunter and Eliza and the Delusionals

Their previous releases have become crowd favourites within the local Eora/Sydney music community and have been supported strongly within the tastemaker music blogosphere and community radio circles of FBi Radio2SER2RRR and Three D Radio

Bryn is also an esteemed actor who stars as Spencer ‘Spider’ White in Netflix’s reboot of Heartbreak High; currently the #6 most watched TV show globally on the streaming platform.

‘Labour In Vain’ will be available worldwide on Friday, October 14
