HOMEBAKE 2012 – The Countdown Begins…Maps, Times, More Band Winners, Housos & more!

The Countdown Begins…Maps, Times, More Band Winners, Housos & more

Righto folks, as we count down the days to all the action happening at The Domain on Saturday, 8 December we’ll be cramming in last minute news, announcements and more, so please stay carefully tuned (and patient) as you won’t want to miss a beat!

First cab off the rank …… ladies & gentlemen we have yet more comedy stars joining us at the HOMEBAKE 2012 Sydney Comedy Festival Stage and although they are the last pick of the crop, you can’t get any better than this.

Please welcome –

The one & only HOUSOS –

From the movie Housos vs Authority, (in Cinemas nation-wide now), & the cult TV show Housos on SBS, come Australia’s funniest bludgers. Sponsored by Centrelink, Shazza, Franky, Kev and Abdul are all ready to kick ass in ugg boots and thongs at this year’s HOMEBAKE. AVOs, STIs and LOLs all guaranteed and paid for with government benefits!

Literally adored by houso-holds across Australia, HOMEBAKE brings Housos direct from television screens to our humble stage. Last year they crashed HOMEBAKE, this year, we sent an invite and they’ve accepted! That’s right folks, the team that are the hugely popular Housos bring their ‘Sunnyvale swag & style” in full effect to HOMEBAKE on the cusp of the release of their (destined to be controversially huge) feature ‘filum’ Housos vs Authority. Check out more here: http://www.housosvsauthority.com.au/

The Housos series is the comic genius of Paul Fenech (Fat Pizza, Swift & Shift Couriers) originally created and written for SBS. Co-incidentally, Paul first graced HOMEBAKE stages in 2001 during the production and film shoot of the feature film, Garage Days.

… and joining HOUSOS:

TIEN TRAN

In 2011, Tien Tran entered triple j’s RAW Comedy for the first time and made it to the National Finals at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival before going on in 2012 to perform his solo show ‘If you don’t know, now you know’ at the Perth International Comedy Festival and the Sydney Fringe Festival and opened for acts such as Anthony Jeselnik.

SACHA MARX

Sacha Marx is a regular on the Comedy scene and the Sydney Comedy Store. Even with a sold out solo season at the 2011 Sydney Comedy festival with his show Cautious Optimism under his belt, Marx still loathes!

RAY BADRAN

Ray Badran, winner of the self-appointed best bloke award, is one of Australia’s rising comedians. A regular at the Sydney Comedy Store, Ray has also performed on The Footy Show and contributed writing to various TV shows. Since performing at last year’s HOMEBAKE festival, Ray performed in both the Sydney and Melbourne Comedy Festivals and in the USA. He also holds a Bachelor of Medical Science and once made the grand final of the World Strawberry Eating Championships.

And whilst we’re on the topic of ‘stars on stage’ – huge congrats from all of us here at HOMEBAKE HQ to triple j Unearthed winners, BATTLESHIPS, who will be joining HOMEBAKE 2012 opening the most Rowland S Howard Stage. Winning the triple j HOMEBAKE 2012 Unearthed competition, this has been a busy year for Sydney 4-piece BATTLESHIPS. Having received widespread acclaim for their debut single In Retrospect, BATTLESHIPS deliver their captivating new single Your Words filled with evocative melodies and captivating instrumental arrangements. Having being dubbed “intelligent indie”, BATTLESHIPS are definitely a band to look out for! Battleships – In Retrospect www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Tz9PE439u0

Speaking of winners, we also congratulate all our new young band additions discovered via the Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition.

Being an online band competition, six lucky bands from around Australia have been hand-picked to perform at HOMEBAKE 2012, so make sure to come early & check out all of the following appearing in the Rowland S Howard stage & support this young Aussie talent!

And the lucky bands are –

GO MASON GO (NSW)
After being crowned phase one winners, GO MASON GO went to Melbourne to record a few of their original guitar pop tracks as part of the Red Bull Bedroom Jam prize pack. Now, only weeks after completing their school certificate, they’ll be the envy of all their mates as they take to the stage at HOMEBAKE.

THE VANNS (NSW)
Recently, a four-piece from the south coast of NSW called THE VANNS impressed judges at the phase two final at Sydney’s Hi-Fi. Amongst finishing high school, the guys have been playing a heap of local gigs and also squeezing in some studio time. Fresh from schoolies, they will no doubt keep the party vibes going for HOMEBAKE 2012.

ALTITUDE (VIC)
Garage rock outfit ALTITUDE stood out from the hundreds of entries with their energetic rock stylings. Hailing from Geelong, Luke, Liam, Lachy and Tommy met at St Joseph’s College and in 2010 they knuckled down to pen some original tunes. Earlier this year, they won the Pushover Battle of the Bands and are now stoked to be a wild card for Red Bull Bedroom Jam.

SYD KIDS (NSW)
Sydney duo SYD KIDS will bring some hip-hop and RnB flavours to the stage at HOMEBAKE. With an army of online fans, it’s no surprise that already in their short career that have played with the likes of Ja Rule, Akon, T-Pain and Scribe. Describing themselves as more than just rappers, they utilize dance, acrobatics and vocals and are sure to bring the house down on December 8.

TIRED LION (WA)
Emerging from the streets Perth, four-piece TIRED LION are ecstatic to be heading east to play Homebake. Describing their sound as obscure and ambient, they site the alternative sounds of The Smashing Pumpkins, The Pixies and Sonic Youth as their key influences. Recently, they recorded a single with well-known Perth producer Andy Lawson (Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy) and there are whispers of their debut EP being just around the corner.

BLUEBERRY CIRCUIT (NSW)
After meeting in high school Tyne, Fletcher, Andrew and Romie merged their eclectic musical tastes to create BLUEBERRY CIRCUIT. With influences ranging from Katchafire to Sticky Fingers to Ball Park Music, their pop-reggae sounds are one of a kind.
