Opera Australia presents Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour – La Traviata for an exclusive three-week season in March 2012.

One of the greatest operas ever written, Verdi’s La Traviata, is presented here for the first time under the stars in a large-scale production with spectacular sets, beautiful costumes, dazzling lighting and effects, fireworks and a huge 9-metre chandelier suspended above a purpose-built, shimmering stage. The Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the city skyline will provide the magnificent backdrop.

As the sun sets over the harbour leave the city noise behind and stroll through the Royal Botanic Gardens to this beautiful and unique venue. With a glass of champagne in hand, get ready for an amazing night out with your friends. This magnificent production of La Traviata is extravagant, devastatingly romantic and perfect for first-time opera-goers.

Directed by one of the worlds most exciting directors, Francesca Zambello, and designed by award-winning Australian designers Brian Thomson (Rocky Horror Show,The King and I, Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and Tess Schofield, this will be an unforgettable evening of beautiful music and breathtaking spectacle.
