Returning to Australia this March with their warm vocal harmonies and woodsy, folk-influenced songs is Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit.
The stunning video for ‘Emmylou’ was released into the world this week, and is the second single from First Aid Kit’s forthcoming album (in stores January 27). A tribute to some of the band’s favorite country musicians – Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, June Carter and Johnny Cash – the song struck a chord with Johnny’s daughter Roseanne Cash, who tweeted “I don’t usually like ‘tribute’ songs but this is beautiful. Heartening that such young girls know the stories.”
Since being hand picked by Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife to release their debut EP through Rabid Records in 2008, First Aid Kit’s profile has grown in leaps and bounds. From teenage fans covering Fleet Foxes for fun, to recording a single of Buffy Sainte-Marie’s ‘Universal Soldier’ with Jack White at his request in his Nashville based ‘Third Man’ studio, to extensive US and UK tours with artists such as Lykke Li and their idol Bright Eyes. Late last year the duo moved Patti Smith to tears at the Polar Prize in Stockholm with a stunning rendition of her song ‘Dancing Barefoot’.
Joining Johanna and Klara Söderberg at their sold out Northcote Social Club show in Melbourne will be The Harpoons, who produce R&B pop tunes bursting with rich harmonies. Brisbane audiences will be treated to the sounds of indie dream-pop collective Little Scout, and opening in Sydney will be the abstract compositions and electro-acoustic stylings of Caitlin Park. The duo will also appear at Golden Plains, Womad, and The Speigeltent in Melbourne which is selling fast.
