Day 10: Bringing it home for the last day

The final day of the 2013 Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) has arrived and is set to impress those still to come. With an action-packed last day, the 136th Ekka will finish on a high.

Congratulations to Stretton State College who took out the People’s Choice Award in the Energex Race Around Ekka Competition with 452 votes. The winning videos can be viewed on the Ekka website.

Judging highlights
· 8:30am: Alpaca Judging, McDonald’s Upper Beef Cattle Pavilion (map reference: R2)

· 9am: Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies Aussie Ute Muster Judging, Competition Park (map reference: I5)

· 9am: Canine Judging – Group Specials, Dog Pavilion (map reference: K12)

· 9am: Woodchop and Sawing, Isuzu D-MAX Woodchop Arena (map reference: G2)

Penny Farthing Appearance (map reference: O8)
You’ll be riding back in time when 30 Penny Farthings make their first appearance at the Ekka. Come and see them cycle along as part of the Street Parade starting on Alexandria Street at 12pm. The fun will continue when these impressive bikes race around the track on the Energex Community Arena from 1pm today.

Canine heaven – Best in Show (map reference: K12)
For the past nine days, 1,900 dogs across more than 200 breeds have pranced and danced across the Dog Pavilion arena, all vying for the prestigious blue ribbon. Today at 3pm the competition will come to a head as breeders from across the country hold their breath in anticipation, waiting for the announcement of the coveted Best in Show winner, the ultimate accolade in the Royal Queensland Show canine competition.

Last day bargains (map reference: I14)
Be sure to catch the fruit and vegetable sale happening in the Agricultural Pavilion from 3pm – 5pm today. Don’t be scared to haggle and bring your bargaining boots to ensure you snap up an end of Ekka bargain. Whether it be honey, hand cream, pumpkins or plants, all items must be sold by the end of the day.

Iron Man meet and greet (map reference: H13)
Now’s your chance to meet Iron Man, star of the Ekka IgNites 360 presented by B105. Fly by the Fashion and Fine Food Pavilion (CommBank Fashion Stage) at 5pm and get your photo taken with the Marvel superhero before he makes his last extraordinary appearance tonight.

Is it a bird, a plane or Sunshine Coast skydivers? (map reference: O8)
For the first time in Ekka history, four skydivers will soar through the air carrying Australian flags before landing on the Energex Community Arena. Catch them in the sky at around 1:15pm today as they float back down to enjoy last day Ekka fever.

Junior Secondary School Culinary Challenge (map reference: M15)
The Queensland Junior Secondary School Culinary Challenge is a cooking competition for year 10 students studying Home Economics or Hospitality at high school. Pairs of students will represent their school and battle it out, against some of the most talented and brilliant young cooks in Queensland. With more than $4,000 in prize money, medals and the trophy for the Australian Culinary Federation Queensland Champion Junior Secondary School Challenge up for the taking, this competition will heat up. See future master chefs battle it out on The Harvest and Hops Stage in the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

Kirkegaard is his name, cocktail and beer blending is his game (map reference: M15)
It is the last chance for foodie fanatics to learn what foods match best with their favourite beers and ciders. Don’t miss Matt Kirkegaard’s tips on the best craft beers and ciders with demonstrations throughout the day on The Harvest and Hops Stage in the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion.

Decoupage Demonstration (map reference: O17)
See plenty of artistic flair and learn some new techniques in the Fine Arts Pavilion while watching decoupage demonstrations. Creativity will be at its finest at 2pm in the Lower CommBank Auditorium with cut-outs, colours and crepe paper all used to cover objects in an imaginative way.

Paddock to Plate with Lukas McEwan (map reference: H13)
Learn how to cook like the professionals as Lukas McEwan demonstrates how to cook lamb to perfection as served in the Royal Queensland Steakhouse. Head Chef at Cut Steakhouse and Tapas in Brisbane, Lukas sure knows his way around the kitchen. Come down to The Sunday Mail Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show Stage in the Fashion and Fine Food Pavilion at 12:30pm today.
