Love Police Touring announce an extensive national tour throughout June/July for UK’s, Ben Ottewell. Familiar to a faithful following as the most recognisable voice in Mercury Prize-winning Southport five-piece Gomez, Ottewell released his first solo album, Shapes & Shadows, via ATO/Shock Records in 2011.
While Gomez is a three-singer band, Ottewell’s powerful tenor has graced many fan favourites, from early songs like ‘Get Miles’ and ‘Revolutionary Kind’ to the more recent singles ‘How We Operate’ and ‘See The World.’ In one early profile, Rolling Stone declared, “Gomez’s not-so-secret weapon is Ben Ottewell. His deep, raspy voice is spine chilling… more like an otherworldly bluesman than a baby-faced Brit.” And GQ once wrote, “Ottewell’s voice is not of this world. It is a deep, reverent baritone, the kind of voice that shakes windows.”
Fans can expect Ottewell to play songs from his 2011 solo album Shapes & Shadows, classics from the Gomez catalogue plus his favourite covers. Supporting Ben on all dates (except WA) will be Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Matt Walker, who’s exceptional new album In Echos Of Dawn has everything from swamp-soul through to harmony-rich country blues and lilting piano-driven balladry. Matt supported Gomez back in 2001 on a national tour, and 12 years later Ben and Matt are sure to make one very special musical night.
