The sold out 2013 ARIA Awards capped off an extraordinary year for the Australian music industry at its new home at The Star Event Centre, Sydney. In a year that saw 13 Australian albums go to #1, making it the most successful year for Australian albums in ARIA Charts history, this year’s event certainly showcased and celebrated what a remarkable year 2013 has been for Australian music and artists.

Guests at The Star Event Centre and the fans watching on GO! were treated to a spectacular performance from multiple 2013 ARIA Award recipient Flume (with special guest Isabella Manfredi from The Preatures) delivering an epic rendition of ‘The Greatest View’, a song Flume originally wrote for Intel and features on the deluxe edition of his self-titled album. While ARIA Album Of The Year recipients, Tame Impala closed the night in-style with a performance of their track ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards’.

They were joined on this year’s phenomenal line up by ARIA Award winners Jessica Mauboy and Samantha Jade as well as ARIA-nominated artists Birds Of Tokyo, Vance Joy, Bliss N Eso and Sheppard, as well as the spectacular DJ sets from Alison Wonderland, Stafford Brothers, The Faders and The Potbelleez.

International superstar Alicia Keys delivered a truly captivating performance of her hit single ‘Girl On Fire’ and her brand new single, ‘Brand New Me’ and Lorde capped off her stellar year performing for the very first time on Australian TV and blowing the audience away with her gold-selling single ‘Team’.

In amongst the celebrations, the Australian music industry reflected on the passing of two dearly loved and respected ARIA Hall Of Fame Inductees, Mr Yunupingu and Chrissy Amphlett, who was paid homage to by a spellbinding performance of ‘Pleasure And Pain’ by ARIA Award winning artists, Hayley Mary from The Jezabels and Sally Whitwell.

NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris, has praised the 27th ARIA Award winners, saying it was wonderful to see so many artists from around Australia celebrating their music talents in Sydney, the home of the ARIA Awards and Australia’s major events capital.

Beloved Australian duo, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell, better known as Air Supply, the band that have been delivering impeccably produced love songs for almost four decades, were inducted in to the ARIA Hall Of Fame to an overwhelming and rousing reaction from the crowd. ARIA congratulates one of Australia’s most unique and successful musical stories.

The very first ARIA Industry Icon Award was presented to Michael Gudisnki at the Chariman’s Cocktail Party by Denis Handlin AM, ARIA Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia. More than 40 years since co-founding Mushroom Records and Mushroom Music Publishing, Michael Gudinski is still passionately taking Australian music to the world and ARIA congratulates Michael on an amazing 40 years of achievement.
