Brisbane’s A Breach Of Silence are hitting the road with their new album in tow this May taking in all capital cities on Australia’s East Coast.
Australia is a country that is producing some of the newest and most exciting metal bands in the world. Forget the deadly animals and pristine beaches though; meet A Breach of Silence – a band that has incredibly combined a blend of traditional metal core and old-school power metal.
A Breach of Silence have effectively created their own type of sound, which fans have dubbed “POWER CORE”. The five piece recorded their debut album with world-renowned producers Fredrik Nordstrom and Henrik Udd (In Flames, Bring me the Horizon, At the Gates, I Killed the Prom Queen) which has given it a sound that is slicker then the Fonz from “Happy Days” gelled-back hair.
The debut album “Dead or Alive” is an album that challenges many metal genres and brings something new and exciting to the world. “The album never gets old,” explains guitarist Mat Cosgrove, “each time you listen to it you pick up on something different.” The biggest difference though is saved for songs like “There Will Be Blood” and “Dawn to Rise” where high-pitched falsettos are heard that even Rob Halford would be proud of. “People are initially totally dumb-founded when they see us live for the first time,” Bass player and vocalist Blair Layt describes. “The faces on everyone is priceless, which might I add is a look of ‘HOLY F$*K did you just hear that?!’ with massive smiles.”
Vocalist Rhys Flannery knows the reason for all of these smiles, “People love that we are bringing back old school power metal into a new genre that people think has been overcooked. Our fans are super excited that we are producing a breath of fresh air and creating our own individual sound that has (as we can tell) never been done before.”
With some members originally coming from Central Queensland (also known as the “outback”), the debut album “Dead or Alive” represents both the bands identity and their life experiences through growing up in a region that is both beautiful and deadly.
With track “Dawn to Rise” winning the prestigious Qmusic award for “Heavy Song of the Year” in 2012 the album has already received critical acclaim within the music industry.
Having toured their own country and New Zealand relentlessly and clocking over 20,000km and 80 shows in the past 9 months, A Breach of Silence have created international attention and have scored both supporting and national supporting spots on tours with bands such as the Amity Affliction, Born of Osiris, Upon a Burning Body and I The Breather.
Layt laughs as he depicts how watching the band is “like watching two hot girls jelly wrestling, sheer pleasure, everyone is having a good time, and definitely glad they came along.”
