Brisbane bands are uniting in May to take the River City’s music to the rest of the world. A diverse selection of six of the bands featured on the Brisbane Sounds 2009 compilation will be coming out in support of the local scene and the project to shake the floors at the Zoo as part of the showcase.

On Saturday, May 23, six Brisbane bands will join together to raise money and awareness for a non-profit project which is designed to actively provide exposure and support for Brisbane bands at an international scope. The event will feature sets by local stalwarts Screamfeeder, Gentle Ben and His Sensitive Side and Blackwater Fever.

The night will also feature Vegas Kings, New Jack Rubys and The Mercy Beat. As an added highlight, each band will play a cover song of another Brisbane band from an era of their choice.

Brisbane Sounds organiser Blair Hughes said that the project involved the production of Brisbane Sounds 2009, the third in a series of CD’s to be distributed throughout the UK and Europe to highlight the strength in the Brisbane music scene. Funds raised from the gig will go towards the production of Brisbane Sounds 2009, which will be available to purchase at the gig for $10. Mr. Hughes said “Brisbane Sounds 2009 contains 24 scorching genre jumping tracks from a cross section of Rock and Swamp trash to punk and alt-country bands that rivals Smash Hits ’97”.

Along with the Brisbane Sounds 2009 CD being available for purchase for the first time and merchandise from the bands performing on the night, there will also be a selected series of Brisbane photographs from the Brisbane music scene taken by local photographers which will surround the room. Punters may also be lucky enough to score themselves limited edition Brisbane Sounds memorabilia.
