ARIA Chart News, w/c 2 March 2009

Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s debut solo album “1000 Stars” has bolted straight to number one on the ARIA Album Chart this week. In doing so, Natalie becomes the tenth Australian female solo artist to achieve a number one album. “1000 Stars” features two top ten singles, and surpasses the success Natalie achieved with Rogue Traders, where she enjoyed a number two album with “Here Come The Drums” and number four album with “Better In The Dark”.

In further ARIA Album Chart news this week, The Prodigy achieves a fourth ARIA top 10 album, with “Invaders Must Die” charting first week in at number three. Lamb Of God’s “Wrath” is the third album to debut in the top 10 this week – it’s their second chart entry with 2006’s “Sacrament” debuting and peaking at 25.

Following her whirlwind Australian promotional tour and Brit Awards haul, Duffy’s
“Rockferry” moves up a hefty 19 spots to hit #6, her first time in the top 10. Further debuts come from Melbourne band The Cat Empire, who deliver their fifth top 20 album result with “Live On Earth” at 17, David Hobson and Teddy Tahu Rhodes at 30 with “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and Florida band New Found Glory at 36 with “Not Without A Fight”. Following the recent Oscars blitz by movie “Slumdog Millionaire”, its soundtrack hits the top 40 for the first time, entering at 37, up from 56.

Flo Rida featuring Ke$ha holds at number on both the ARIA Singles and Digital Track Chart this week with the smash hit single “Right Round”. It is the first digital only single to hold at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart for a second successive week without the benefit of a physical release. The All-American Rejects reach their highest point to date on the singles chart with “Gives You Hell” up to 3, and Beyonce cracks the top 10 for the first time with “Halo”, up from 13 to 5, the third top 5 single to be lifted from her current album “I Am…Sacha Fierce”. “Halo” also impacts the digital track chart, up from 12 to 6. This week’s biggest mover on the singles front is The Lonely Island’s “Jizz In My Pants”, up from 28 to 10 and making strong inroads is “Freeze” from T-Pain featuring Chris Brown, up 14 places to 26. The latter also debuts at 29 on the ARIA Digital Track Chart.

Andre Rieu features on both the ARIA Singles and Music DVD Charts this week. His single “Yours Forever” debuts at 16 on the singles chart, with proceeds aiding the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, and he holds the top 3 spots on the music DVD chart with “Dancing Through The Skies” up from 6 to 1, “Live In Maastricht II” at 2 and “Live In Australia” at 3.
