Experience the 22nd Abbey Medieval Festival in all its grandeur at Abbeystowe, off Bribie Island Road. A finalist in the 2010 QLD Tourism Awards, The Abbey Medieval Festival offers the real medieval experience to thousands of visitors annually.

Bring the whole family and enjoy the Kid’s Medieval Fun Day on Wednesday July 6, 2011. Children will be entertained by exciting activities including pony rides and medieval games. Parents can also book their kids in to participate in workshops including junior jousting, gypsy dancing, knights training and much more. Entry per child is $3.50 and online bookings are essential.

The Abbey Medieval Tournament, the highlight event is held over the weekend of July 9 and 10 will charm and delight festival-goers with culture and entertainment including street theatre, music, dance, combat, archery, jousting and much more. With knights, warriors, lords and ladies representing all aspects of the medieval period from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance hailing from the lands of England to the Middle East, there is something for everyone.

At the Abbeystowe grounds festival-goers will find the Marketplace, which offers visitors a chance to experience scrumptious medieval cuisine and authentic medieval shopping. Take time out between the many events in the Tournament program to be entertained by the multitudes of medieval bands and street performers scattered throughout the Abbeystowe grounds. Get involved and test your dancing prowess at the public dance being held by Company of the Phoenix at the Castle Arena.



Historical Combat displays will astound audiences in tourneys, melees and individual combats demonstrating their different fighting styles from Viking to High Medieval. The Jousting Championship will thrill audiences with this perilous medieval contest. Four jousting events will be held on both Tournament days. Purchase seats to a joust on the day and cheer on your favourite international or local knight. In a new jousting addition to the Tournament, the Pas D’armes of St Michaels Abbey, a knight will make it personal when he chooses his own challenger!

  A new Saturday night event promising to blow audiences away in dramatic medieval style with challenges, horse archery and a fire spectacle is ‘Warriors of the Steppe’. Entry to this event at the Jousting arena is by Gold coin donation and begins at 5.30pm, markets will remain open until 7pm on Saturday.
