Brisbane five-piece Settling – “Drop the Game” (Music Stream)

settlingSettling are an indie-pop five-piece from Brisbane, Australia. Settling started in 2012 as the solo project of Brisbane singer-songwriter, Tim Swanston. After collaborating with local vocalist/guitarist Kurtis Tupangaia, they duo made their debut into the Brisbane live music scene, backed by their trusty laptop. Deciding that they needed to flesh out their sound, they added local musicians Andrew Markwell (lead guitar) and Becky Meimaris (drums). This addition led to a change in musical direction, taking their acoustic-led folk songs into a heavier, poppier sound.

Drawn From Bees return from 2013 hiatus with a Free Digital Release and Residency

DFB2013 was a year of change for Drawn from Bees, with iconic lead guitarist, Raven Danger Jones, retiring from the band. Followed by a period of unrest, discontent and failed attempts to work on recording new material, the band went into hiding.

Towards the end of the year, DFB rediscovered their mojo and began to work on material that will be in a forthcoming EP, due for release in May. During the songwriting process on a rainy Brisbane summer afternoon, Dan, Stew and Matt wrote and recorded Song for Mary Lou.

Ash Grunwald | Australian Autumn Tour 2014 announced

AshHot off the stomping, hairy heels of Ash’s GARGANTUA album release and tour with Scott and Andy from The Living End, Ash is returning to the pavement as the lone troubadour, to pound his way up and down his favourite haunts. Renowned for the most incredibly, thumping live shows to come out of single human being, Ash is super excited about being back on the stomp box and reaffirming his decade long reputation as being the loudest one-man-band around.

During Ash’s time with Scott and Andy – one of the country’s most skilled rhythm sections, he was forced to step things up and do something he’d never done before – practice! The excitement of the challenge – the fear almost of playing with two such musical entities – spawned in Ash a passion for musical self-betterment he hadn’t felt since that all consuming, all too common teenage obsession of wanting to become the greatest musician in the world.

Scottish Comic Kevin Bridges announces Australian Tour

KevinBridgesKevin Bridges is Scotland’s favourite stand up comic! He tours Australia for the first time in March with shows in Melbourne Brisbane and Sydney.

Despite having not set foot in a comedy club before his first open mic spot in 2004, Kevin’s natural gift for comedy ensured he quickly became a regular at major comedy clubs up and down the country.

In 2006 Kevin performed his first full-length solo show at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, to a sold out audience and much critical acclaim. Moving into bigger venues every year, Kevin continued to sell out his hometown festival in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Live Review | Lynyrd Skynyrd @ Qantas Credit Union Arena, Sydney – February 13, 2014

Review and photos by Peter Coates
Lynyrd SkynrydThis is apparently the first time US Southern Rock giants LYNYRD SKYNYRD have ever toured Australia in their 40+ years as a band! Judging by the number of tour T-shirts in the crowd from the past 20 years, many of the audience had seen them elsewhere!

I was lucky enough to shoot (photograph) their “God & Guns” Tour in London in March 2010, and jumped at the chance to see them again when the Australian dates were announced. Only two shows in Melbourne and Sydney, after a couple of festival shows in New Zealand, but two shows in 40 years is certainly better than none!
