Discover: The Invincible Summer’s debut single “Runaway”

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me… an Invincible Summer” – Albert Camus

After spending the Australian summer in the chill of the northern hemisphere, Sydney based multi-instrumentalist Matt James returned home with a vision to establish a musical collective entitled The Invincible Summer, inspired by French author Albert Camus’ quote which he saw scrawled on the side of his Darlinghurst hall upon his return to Australia.

Runaway is the debut single from the forthcoming self-titled debut LP, due in store early 2013.

Tour News: Fear Factory Australian Tour 2012 – Supports Announced!

Blue Murder Presents
The rumours are true, Fear Factory are confirmed to tour Australia this September! Armed with their latest album The Industrialist, a new chapter in Fear Factory’s career of ideas and extremes, it’s the Fear Factory machine at its most confident and passionate, bringing every sonic weapon in its arsenal to the fore.

The shadow of the Los Angeles born band has loomed large, writing the book of industrial metal that has gone on to influence the likes of Rammstein and inform such stalwart noisemongers as Ministry. Fear Factory also merged the idea of melodic vocals erupting from death metal screaming long before it became modern metal’s de-riguer. Over the course of a many storied career that’s seen the success of five critically acclaimed albums plus a remix ep and album, Fear Factory has had a career of creative and commercial success, selling over three million records worldwide: they’ve also been plagued by bitter infighting and have emerged from it all in 2012 with a new alloy of aggression.

Live Review: Clint Boge, Dan England, Bellusira @ The Evelyn, Melbourne

Review: Billy Geary
After what in the end was a rather messy departure from The Butterfly Effect, Clint Boge hasn’t missed a beat moving straight into solo mode for a national tour. Friday night’s stop was at the rustic Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne.

Opening for the night was local heavy rock band Bellusira, swapping out their normal distortion in favour of acoustic guitars for their set. Vocalist Crystal Ignite’s powerful voice was on full display, standing out even more without the full band behind her. Their short set furthered her case for being Melbourne’s best female vocalist and was a great way to start the night.

Live Review: Apocalyptica @ The Hi-Fi, Sydney – 31 August 2012

Review by Meghan Player
It’s been a long time coming for fans of Finnish band Apocalyptica to finally catch the band on Australian soil for the first time in their 16+ year career – and it was well worth the wait.

As the band take to the stage to a roar from the local crowd, the first thing you must remember is to forget everything you know about ‘traditional’ metal bands and their sound. Apocalyptica not only redefines what makes a great metal band, but the manner in how the sound is achieved.

Arming themselves with cellos [yes, cellos], the band whip through melodic frenzies of gorgeous noise – willing the crowd into an incredible sense of awe. The head banging, hair twirling spectacle doesn’t cease through the bands entire set – never disengaging, never boring, never predictable.
