Live Review: The Living End at Corner Hotel, Melbourne – 11 December 2012

Review by Billy Geary
Let’s start this off by stating the obvious, The Living End are one of Australia’s most loved rock bands. They’ve played at nearly every rock festival this country has offered over the past ten years, sold god knows how many albums and are revered all over the place. However, it is the live environment in which they truly excel. The three Melbourne lads have won stacks of awards for being an outstanding live band over the years, which ultimately cemented them as Australian rock royalty.

Then, as we come to December 2012, The Living End are embarking on their biggest tour yet, playing each of their albums in full one at a time across the country. On Tuesday night, the tour started off in their hometown of Melbourne, playing their phenomenal self-titled debut from start to finish. It was the first of 11 gigs at The Corner Hotel over the space of about two weeks and if it was anything to go by, each night was going to be treated to something special no matter which album was being played.

Album Review: Chance Waters – Infinity

review by Helen Brown
The art of blending hip hop with a multitude of genres is on the rise and has recently been done by Bliss & Eso and East Londoner Plan B. The latest to be inducted into the fold is Chance Waters, a Sydney hip hop artist with a social conscience.

From crumbling societies and the end of the world, to the joys of young love, Chance Waters has collaborated with the likes of Kate Martin, Lilian Blue and Bertie Blackman among many others to produce Infinity, an album peppered with indie folk, bluesy guitars, piano organs and catchy heartfelt lyrics that fluctuate between bleak and hopeful.

‘Conjure Up A Fire’ is a stand out track reminding us that we have the power to make a difference, that we should never follow the masses and never be afraid to find our voice.

65daysofstatic Australian Tour 2013 – Supports Announced!

One of the world’s most popular instrumental groups, 65DAYSOFSTATIC, have announced their first ever visit to Australia, performing headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth as well as this year’s Peat’s Ridge Festival. The tour follows the recent announcement of the release of their back catalogue in Australia, beginning with their latest ‘We Were Exploding Anyway / Heavy Sky’ featuring Robert Smith (The Cure), followed by deluxe editions of their first 3 albums.

Formed in 2001 in Sheffield, 65daysofstatic quickly established themselves as one of the most influential post-rock exponents in the UK. Whilst their early EPs showed a band dabbling in electronica and dance-rock, the band was equally at home playing epic instrumentals and math-rock. The success of their 2004 debut LP The Fall Of Math and the follow up One Time For All Time earned the band a personal invitation to support The Cure on their 2007/08 arena tour around the world.
