DEFTONES have always been one step ahead of their alternative metal peers. They have spent their career battling on the front-line, always pushing ahead stylistically and crafting crushingly effective metal tracks whilst breaking new ground.
2010’s ‘Diamond Eyes’ was a roaring return for the band but it’s the new album ‘Koi No Yokan’ that sees them forge into unchartered territory. NME were in awe exclaiming “it’s easy to see why they’re so revered. It’s a shotgun blast of cranked guitars, bruising hardcore and canyon-sized choruses…mesmerising.” Absolute Punk summed it up in one sentence…”this is a fucking great album.” Under The Gun rated the album perfect stating “The band’s vision and skill remain second to none in their field and they have executed this record sublimely. “

Having only just plunged into the music scene, Brisbane musician Wafia has induced nationwide waves of enthusiasm and excitement with her minimal and experimental folk style. Before her first release in December 2012 (WAFIA – ep) she has been gathering appreciation and accolades aplenty. Her sound is a refreshing mix of old and new, taking the best elements of traditional folk music; the acoustic guitar; the wistful lyrics; the brooding voice. But Wafia has more to offer. With her newly formed and unconventional band, Wafia is playing her first Melbourne show in the intimate setting of 1000 £ Bend on the 17th of March followed by a Brisbane show on the 21st of March at The Hideaway. It is clear that Wafia genuinely gives a part of herself through her music and that is something that should not be ignored, but rather admired and supported if you enjoy hauntingly beautiful lyrics that will leave you in a state of burning heart-felt disdain for life.
