Tour News: Soilwork Australian Tour – October 2013‏

Sweden’s SOILWORK have long been regarded by many as pioneers of melodic death metal. Alongside fellow Swedish acts such as In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, the band’s unique blend of melodic metal is a fusion of the classic Gothenburg Sound with power-groove riffs that were prominent in 70’s and 80’s British and European metal.

SOILWORK have been working from the ground up developing and honing their sound for close to 20 years now. Their latest album, the just released and first double album in death metal history, ‘The Living Infinite’ features soaring melodies via the identifiable dual gruff/clean vocals of Bjorn ‘Speed’ Strid, intricate guitar work and a supremely tight rhythm section that has became their signature sound. Often imitated but never duplicated.

Playing to sold-out crowds on their last Australian visit in 2010, the band delivered a monster live show for their ever growing legion of fans. Returning to our shores, the metal powerhouse that is SOILWORK are sure to bring a skull-crushing, heart-pumping show even that is even bigger than the last.

Tour News: Jagwar Ma announces April 2013 Tour‏

The band have capitalised on the buzz of their debut single (2011’s ‘Come and Save Me’) by delivering a killer follow-up, ‘The Throw’. That track, with its psychadelic-techno leanings, has made some serious waves both here and around the globe: Pitchfork rated it with their prestigious Best New Music and said “the song’s the purest piece of Madchester revivalism to come around in some time”. NME said ‘The Throw’ was Jagwar Ma’s “grand statement to the world”. It’s been added to the BBC Radio 1 playlist and, locally, was the #1 Most Played track on triple j. They recently graced the cover of SMH’s Next Big Things feature.

Live Review: KISS + Motley Crue @ Brisbane Entertainment Centre – 12 March 2013

Review by Michelle O’Rance
Two of the biggest names in rock’n’roll and heavy metal joined forces and descended upon Brisbane in a fiery, laser light filled show complete with upside down drum solos, acrobatics, ladies on stilts, flying musicians and pyrotechnics.

The elaborate stage set-up promised something big as the house lights dimmed and a single spotlight picked up the page bearers carrying the Motley Crue banners and leading a robed Nikki Sixx through the sea of people on the Entertainment Centre’s floor.
