The first time I realised music is a powerful thing was when I heard Masters of War by Bob Dylan. It changed the way I viewed musics place and function in society.

Dirty Three- Live at Meredith.
It almost makes me cry every time I listen to it.
Nick Cave Murder Ballads would come a close second.

Villainy blast into Australia with “Alligator Skin Tour”

Villainy are bringing their no holds barred rock to Australia for the first time. The New Zealand rock quartet are launching their first single in Oz, “Alligator Skin” with a tour including showcases at BigSound and supports for established Australian rock’n’rollers Kingswood and swamp rocker Jackson Firebird.

“Alligator Skin” from the forthcoming Mode. Set. Clear. was recorded with Melbourne-based producer Tom Larkin (Shihad, King Cannons, Calling All Cars) and has been number 1 on the Radioscope New Zealand Rock Charts.

Their stellar live reputation earned them two arena support slots for Incubus just months after their first shows and the band has since supported The Offspring, Billy Talent and played a coveted late afternoon slot at the annual Homegrown Festival in the NZ’s capital city Wellington. In March and April of 2013 Villainy completed their first headline national tour playing to rapturouscrowds from one end of the country to the next.

Mike McCarthy and Dan Hannaford announce BUILDING FIRES North Coast Tour

This time two years ago, Mike McCarthy and Dan Hannaford were holed up in a small fishing shack on the mid north coast NSW recording Dan’s first LP Rust to Dust. Since then they have both been extremely busy forging out their respective music careers.

Mike McCarthy has been out touring his 2012 album The Lion’s Share with his now wife Soph. They’ve travelled up and down the East coast of Australia playing their brand of open sea folk and dirt box blues in the first year of marriage promoting an album that initially brought them together. Now they head north of the border to promote the latest single BUILDING FIRES.

Melbourne alt abstract pop artist, Lester The Fierce has announced the release of her new single, Howl lifted from her forthcoming self-titled EP due out September 13. Lester The Fierce is a combination of Anita Lester and her alter ego imagined from a children’s book hero. The prolific singer songwriter manages to touch on everything in her songs from love, sex, death and the weather. Lester has been a silent fixture in the Australian music scene for years and has become known for her haunting and unmistakably unique voice.

Tour News: Dead Letter Circus National Tour – August/September 2013

It’s all systems go in the Dead Letter Circus camp. Since their last album peaked at #2 on the ARIA charts, achieved gold sales and spawned several hit singles, Australia has been waiting patiently for new material from the Brisbane five-piece. Finally they are delivering in spades.

Having already announced the release of their second album The Catalyst Fire via UNFD on August 9, the band revealed yesterday that they would be touring Australia in support of the new effort. FIVE: The Big Reunion Australia 2013

KillRockStar Entertainment and Tom Bowler present in Australia for the first time since 2001, recently reformed UK pop superstars FIVE.

ADALITA announces October 2013 headline album tour with full band

Adalita recently revealed the release date for her second solo album, All Day Venus – this coming September 20. Now, further good news is at hand for fans of the Melbourne artist. Following the album’s release, Adalita will hit the road for a headline tour.

The tour will take Adalita to major metro and regional locations along Australia’s east coast. It will provide the first opportunity for fans to see Adalita playing her new material with a full band. The band line-up includes ex Paradise Motel bassist Matt Bailey. In addition to the east coast tour dates, Adalita will also perform a solo show in Adelaide.
