Kip Moore Rocks Savannah in the Round: A Night to Remember in Mareeba, Queensland
Saturday, October 12th, 2024
Kip Moore has been a dominant force in the country music scene since his debut single, Mary Was the Marrying Kind. However, it was the iconic track Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck that propelled him to stardom, becoming a cultural touchstone that resonated with fans worldwide. With hit after hit, Kip has solidified his place in country music history, and his recent performance at Savannah in the Round, Mareeba, was no exception
Life Music Media (LMM) caught up with Kip about half an hour before his show at Savannah in the Round at Mareeba during his current Australian tour. After recently visiting Nashville and witnessing the thriving country music scene there, we asked Kip what he thought made Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck such a hit.
Kip: “Honestly, I think it was the cadence, the phrasing in the cadence of the song… To be honest, it was just an old blues song, and I was able to tap into something. But you never know what’s going to be a hit and why it’s a hit. I sometimes wonder myself. But yes, that cadence—it just makes you feel good. When I first recorded it, I had a feeling that if people heard it, it would have a chance to catch.”
This marks Kip’s fifth tour of Australia. He reminisced about his early days, recalling his humble beginnings at CMC Rocks in 2014, playing to just a few hundred people. Fast forward to 2024, and Kip is now performing to sold-out venues around the globe. Following this tour, Kip and his band will be heading straight to South Africa before returning to the U.S. Kip said touring is really tough – tough on the whole band. Despite the demanding travel schedule, Kip shared that the fans’ energy keeps them going.
LMM: “You’re a fan of the outdoors. Do you ever get the chance to explore while traveling?”
Kip: “I wish I did. It’s all so fast-paced when you’re on tour. We don’t have a tour bus, so we wake up at 6:00 almost every morning to head to the next destination. By the time you get there, you’re exhausted and trying to rest for the show. I’m hoping to come back in the winter—your summer—and plan a hiking trip with the band.”
During the tour, Kip played at some iconic venues, including Anita’s Theatre in the beachside suburb of Thirroul, New South Wales. Given his love of surfing we were curious if he had time to hit the surf while in Wollongong.
Kip: “I didn’t, though I tried! When we were in Wollongong, I saw an amazing right-hand break, but I couldn’t find a board—the surf shops were closed.”
As for collaborations, Kip expressed an interest in working with British rocker Sam Fender, a surprising yet exciting direction for the country star.
Later that night, Kip and his band delivered an unforgettable performance at Savannah in the Round. Thousands of fans filled the venue, singing along to every word of his hits. From start to finish, Kip had the crowd in the palm of his hand, creating a magical night for country music fans in Mareeba.
Kip is currently promoting his latest album, Damn Love, and during our chat, he hinted at exciting new projects. He revealed that a new album is already in the works, with the recently released single Live Here to Work offering fans a taste of what’s to come.
We wrapped up our interview with a few personal questions, and although Kip prefers to keep his private life under wraps, he was an excellent sport throughout our chat.
As Kip’s tour heads to South Africa and then back to the U.S. for another extensive tour, fans can only hope his next trip to Australia will allow for Kip and his band to get to experience some Australian outdoor adventures. Until then, make sure to check out his current album – Damn Love and latest single- Live Here to Work, Don’t miss the chance to see Kip Moore live—he’s an artist you don’t want to miss.
