Indie Music at Spiegeltent – Brisbane Festival 2010

Brizzie music fans – get ready to take in a stellar line-up, a “season” if you like, of the coolest homegrown and international indie acts heading to the sunshine state as part of Brisbane Festival 2010.

The most opulent of pop up bars, live music venue The Spiegeltent will play host to a selection of much-loved and up-and-coming artists including First Aid Kit, Paul Dempsey, Ed Kuepper, Old Man River, Oh Mercy, Buck 65 and more.

After 20 years in the music industry performing with the likes of PJ Harvey and Moby, critically acclaimed Canadian performer Buck 65 will add some international star power to the bill whilst Paul Dempsey, Ed Kuepper and Dan Kelly will show audiences why they are some of our most loved Aussie troubadours.

Hitting Australian shores for the first time are Swedish duo First Aid Kit. The singing sisters will prove they are more than just a You Tube sensation, bringing their unique blend of indie folk harmonies Down Under after impressing crowds in the UK, USA and Europe.

Adding to the international flavour, Harry Angus James, best known for his band The Cat Empire as well as regular turns with ARIA nominated Jackson Jackson, teams up with classical tabla player, Dheeraj Shrestha to present an interactive and enchanting concert of Nepalese-Indo-Jazz.

Having built a reputation for inimitable live performances at some of the world’s premier music festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Big Day Out, Bluesfest, Sunset Sounds, Musexpo LA and Canadian Music Week, Queensland’s own The Gin Club will also get the crowd going with their special blend of acoustic folk, pop, country and rock’n’roll.

Representing Melbourne is sublime songwriter with the blue-eyed, broken-hearted voice, Lisa Miller and up-and-coming polished pop duo Oh Mercy. Described by Rolling Stone Magazine as “…the freshest, smartest song-writing partnership since the Finn brothers”, Oh Mercy have been clocking up some distance of late and are 2010 alumnae of Big Day Out, SXSW, Laneway Festival and the UK’s Great Escape Festival…next stop Brisbane!

The iconic Spiegeltent has travelled all the way from Belgium to form the hub of Brisbane Festival 2010 and will bring the music to a new location this year in the heart of the city at King George Square.
