Eminem has notched up more number one singles than any other male artist in the history of the ARIA Charts, as “We Made You” swoops past Back Eyed Peas to the top of the ARIA Singles Chart this week. Ronan Keating continues his domination of the ARIA Album Chart as “Songs For My Mother” stays at number one for a third consecutive week, holding out Andre Rieu who debuts at #2 with “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. Black Eyed Peas takes over top spot on the ARIA Digital Track Chart with “Boom Boom Pow”, with the physical release of this single imminent.
With Eminem at one and Black Eyed Peas up to two with “Boom Boom Pow” on this week’s ARIA Singles Chart, last week’s number one “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)” goes to #3. Lady Gaga moves up strongly from 8 to 4 with “Lovegame” ahead of her arrival in the country, Taylor Swift is at 5 with “Love Story” and The Script leaps into the top 10, with “Breakeven” up from 11 to 6. The Script has 3 singles in the top 100 this week, with their first single “We Cry” at 82 and former UK smash “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” at 52. Katy Perry is also on an upward trajectory, with “Waking Up In Vegas” up from 28 to 21, and she’s trailed by three top 40 debuts this week. Making a welcome return to the singles chart is Green Day, on debut at 22 with “Know Your Enemy”, their first chart single since they teamed up with U2 in 2006 for the #1 hit “The Saints Are Coming”. They’re followed by Eskimo Joe’s “Foreign Land” at 24, their ninth chart entry, Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s “1000 Stars” at 30 and Cassie Davis featuring Travis McCoy at 39 with “Differently”.
This week’s ARIA Album Chart reflects the fact that today is Mother’s Day, and sees Ronan Keating holding at one as Andre Rieu debuts at 2 with “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. It is his second top 2 appearance following “Waltzing Matilda” which hit number one on the album chart last year. Within the top 5, Lily Allen holds at 3 with “It’s Not Me, It’s You”, Taylor Swift moves up two places with “Fearless” to #4 and P!nk bounces back from 9 to 5 with “Funhouse”. The Priests race from 27 to 6 with their self-titled album, and after a stirring performance at last Sunday’s Logie Awards, Annie Lennox re-enters the top 10 with “The Annie Lennox Collection” at 10. Further debuts include Ben Harper And Relentless 7 at 17 with “White Lies For Dark Times”, Harper’s thirteenth album and ninth top 50 entry, and Andre Rieu for a second time as “The Best Of Andre Rieu” makes it into the top 40 at 33. He has 3 albums in the top 40 with “Masterpieces” sitting at #14 this week. Further top 40 re-entries this week include David Campbell’s “Good Lovin’” at 26, Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Essential Simon & Garfunkel” at 30, Brooks & Dunn with “Cowboy Town” at 36, David Hobson and Teddy Tahu Rhodes at 37 with “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, “Gurrumul” from Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu at 39 and Troy Cassar-Daley’s “I Love This Place” at 40.
This week’s ARIA Digital Track Chart highlights include Black Eyed Peas with “Boom Boom Pow” moving up from 3 to 1, The Script’s “Breakeven” up to 4 from 9 and Lady Gaga’s “Lovegame” up 5 places to 6, with the video of the latter on debut at 29. Natalie Bassingthwaighte provides the second top 40 debut of the week with “1000 Stars” at 30. On the ARIA Music DVD Chart, The Priests move up to take top spot with “In Concert At Armagh Cathedral”, David Campbell’s “Good Lovin’ Live” is at 2 and Andre Rieu at 3 with “Live In Australia”, with Rieu providing 8 of the titles in this week’s music DVD top 20 chart.
