Linkin Park + Stone Sour – Soundwave sideshows announced!

Since their 2000 debut album ‘Hybrid Theory’, LINKIN PARK have spent the last 12 years doing something popular artists just don’t do: going off-menu.

The learning curve was arduous, but a necessary and welcome challenge for the band. ‘Hybrid Theory’ isn’t just the title of the first album, but a career mission statement. From day one, LINKIN PARK built the band upon the premise of fusing all of their favourite styles of music—as disparate as they might be—into one signature sound.

Live Review: Clint Boge, Dan England, Bellusira @ The Evelyn, Melbourne

Review: Billy Geary
After what in the end was a rather messy departure from The Butterfly Effect, Clint Boge hasn’t missed a beat moving straight into solo mode for a national tour. Friday night’s stop was at the rustic Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne.

Opening for the night was local heavy rock band Bellusira, swapping out their normal distortion in favour of acoustic guitars for their set. Vocalist Crystal Ignite’s powerful voice was on full display, standing out even more without the full band behind her. Their short set furthered her case for being Melbourne’s best female vocalist and was a great way to start the night.

Live Review: Apocalyptica @ The Hi-Fi, Sydney – 31 August 2012

Review by Meghan Player
It’s been a long time coming for fans of Finnish band Apocalyptica to finally catch the band on Australian soil for the first time in their 16+ year career – and it was well worth the wait.

As the band take to the stage to a roar from the local crowd, the first thing you must remember is to forget everything you know about ‘traditional’ metal bands and their sound. Apocalyptica not only redefines what makes a great metal band, but the manner in how the sound is achieved.

Arming themselves with cellos [yes, cellos], the band whip through melodic frenzies of gorgeous noise – willing the crowd into an incredible sense of awe. The head banging, hair twirling spectacle doesn’t cease through the bands entire set – never disengaging, never boring, never predictable.

Festival News: Drunken Moon Festival – East Coast Shows – Sept/Oct 2012

Captivating, electrifying, “way too dirty for soap” and more than a little dangerous—Drunken Moon is pure live spectacle.

The festival came about when James Grim, frontman for Melbourne sex-voodoo-Delta blues-a-billy band Brothers Grim & the Blue Murders’, set out to, quite simply, carefully curate the finest collection of live bands he’s seen in the past year into one massive east coast splurge of shows. Acts selected are ones that draw inspiration from varied ol’ time musical roots, fused with a modern twist and representing the burgeoning hybridised Australian blues community to boot.

News: AZIZ ANSARI is coming to Australia – October 2012

AZIZ ANSARI is coming to Australia for his first tour with three very special shows.

Comedian and actor Aziz Ansari is best known for his role as the cocky yet lovable Tom Haverford on the Emmy Award nominated series Parks and Recreation playing a small time government employee bent on becoming a “Diddy” like mogul. Considering he’s cameo’d in a Jay-Z and Kanye West music video, counts Quentin Tarantino as a fan and has Barrack Obama ‘keeping him humble and hungry’, it seems Ansari’s real life is doing just fine.
