Brisbane Ekka 2008

The Brisbane Ekka is upon us once more and between the 7th-16th of August this event will once again bring a diverse range of activities that will delight the masses, young and old.  Of particular interest is the Nova Live and Loud series of concerts held at the Ekka.  With the likes of Butterfingers, Regurgitator and Faker as drawcards, in one of the best Brisbane venues, this will no doubt draw in the fans. 

Butterfingers
Brisbane band Butterfingers released thier debut album “Breakfast at Fatboys” in 2004 and since then has been a staple on the Australian music scene. With two ARIA nominations under their belt and a brand new album to come out this year, Butterfingers is set to continue their success. Self described as a mix of genres from hip hop, punk rock and electro, Butterfingers will open with a bang on the first big night of Nova Live and Loud.

Avalon Drive
Avalon Drive hit the Australian music scene with a bang in 2006 touring with The Veronicas, INXS, All American Rejects, Yellowcard, Houston Calls and Matchbook Romance in addition to three of their own headlining tours. Things haven’t slowed down for the five-piece band having started the year playing with Hoobastank and joined Fall out Boy on their Australian Tour. With their new single Make Your Move, band member Daimon Page stated that the track is “a
very small taste of what is to come.”

Regurgitator
Since releasing their first self titled EP in late 2004, Regurgitator has received national and international success touring all over the world with particular success in Europe and Asia. The band has been a regular on the Australian touring circuit making appearances at big festivals such Big Day Out. Regurgitator has recorded their albums all over world with their sixth and latest album Love and Paranoia being recorded in Brazil.

Yves Klein Blue
Yves Klein Blue was the product of the four members love of Led Zeppelin forged in high school. Self-described as a mixed palate, Yves is a blend of pop, punk, jazz and rock. Their current album Yves Klein Blue Draw Attention to Themselves was recorded in Brisbane and Byron Bay.

Faker
Faker has been a staple on the Australian music scene since their 2005 album Addicted Romantic. Faker has recently hit the charts with their single This Heart Attack from their second album Be the Twilight. Throughout Faker’s time together they have performed a main-stage national tour for Big Day Out,
Triple J One Night Stand (pulling biggest ever crowd), whilst additionally making appearances on a variety of TV programs such as Sunrise, Rove and the NRL Footy Show.

Intercooler
2002 saw the release of Intercooler’s debut album Old School is The New School to critical acclaim. Intercooler toured extensively up and down the east coast of Australia, performing at festivals such as Big Day Out and Livid, and supporting international acts Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Queens of the Stone Age. With the release of their second album Intercooler doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
