More FREE Music From May to August @ Brisbane Powerhouse

By now, Brisbane is well aware that the place to spend your weekends if you love music is the Weekend Sessions at Brisbane Powerhouse, the ever revolving and constantly evolving program of FREE music across the entire weekend, no matter what your taste. The year so far has been a ripper and May to August promises even more.

Thanks to BrisPop, The Residents are going to keep you rocking right through until August with one amazing band or artist after another each month. Skinny Jean is our resident band for May, bringing their boisterous yet introspective brand of post- punk/post-rock songwriting to the Turbine Platform. Lining up after that, for a month’s worth of gigs each, are the inimitable Tara Simmons, PJ Weston and the always dashing Gentle Ben and His Sensitive Side.

If you want to feel like you’ve gotten out of Brisbane and had a holiday somewhere exotic, look no further than Planet. From Latin to Reggae, Indian to African, Planet, will transport your musical senses literally to another world.

Waxing Lyrical has a stellar line-up heading our way over the next few months, ready to share their stories and their talent. Highlights include Glenn Thompson and Dave McCormack from Custard, Roz Pappalardo, stepping out from her usual role as host to share her music and Remy Boccalatte of The Paper & the Plane.

If cool grooves are more your style you’ll be happy to hear that Turbine Jazz, co-presented with Jazz Queensland, have some hot line-ups in store with Kristin Berardi and James Sherlock in July and Ingrid James in August.

QUT Creative Industries will be sending more of their most talented students our way when Popalicious sweetens up the Turbine Platform once more, featuring Nuvo, Ball Park Music and with the July Popalicious featuring artists from QUT’s Generate program.

And if Sundays are your thing, you can’t go wrong with Brisbane’s favourite free music and comedy mix, Livespark and Livewired. Kicking off with some of this country’s best up and coming Indie-Pop at 3.30pm and heading into the evening with a few laughs from 6.30pm, some of the highlights ahead include Regurgitator, Last Dinosaurs and Tripod on Sunday 16 May.
