Hilltop Hoods takes over #1 position on ARIA Album Chart on debut!

Adelaide’s acclaimed hip-hop outfit Hilltop Hoods have captured their third ARIA #1 album, as ‘Drinking From The Sun’ blasts into top spot this week. In April 2006 their debut ‘Hard Road’ went straight to number one, and following suit was 2009’s ‘State Of The Art’, which maintained it’s first two chart weeks at the peak. Top spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week has again been claimed by fun. featuring Janelle Monae with ‘We Are Young’, the anthemic track enjoying its second week at #1 with a healthy 20% sales increase week on week.

Bruce Springsteen is the other big story to come out of this week’s ARIA Album Chart. His album ‘Wrecking Ball’ lands The Boss his fifteenth top 10 Australian album, going right back to ‘Born To Run’ in 1975. He was last in the album chart top 10 a little over three years ago (February 2009), when ‘Working On A Dream’ peaked at #3. With Hilltop Hoods and Bruce Springsteen debuting at 1 and 2 respectively, Adele’s twelve times platinum album ‘21’ moves back to #3 this week but still enjoys a sales spike of more than a third over last week! Michael Crawford blasts into the top 10 at #9, up from 37 last week, with his fifth Australian top 10 album ‘The Story Of My Life – Ultimate Collection’, as does Bob Seger with ‘Ultimate Hits: Rock And Roll Never Forgets’ which jumps eight places to #10 this week to earn him his fourth Aussie top 10 album.

Outside the ARIA Album Chart top 10 and Bon Iver’s self-titled release continues its upward trajectory, moving from 17 to 12, but still ten places behind it’s original highpoint. Taylor Swift’s ‘Speak Now World Tour Live’ jumps four places to #16, Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ returns to the top 20 at #17 and Adele’s debut ‘19’ leaps forward 11 places to #21. Further top 40 debuts this week come from Hot Chelle Rae with ‘Whatever’ at 25, fun. with ‘Some Nights’ at 35 and Soulfly’s ‘Enslaved’ at 40.

This week’s ARIA Singles Chart sees Nicki Minaj on the move again with her new single ‘Starships’, which jumps from 4 to 2. Skrillex hit the top 10 for the first time last week with ‘Bangarang’ and this week enjoys success in the top 5 (at #5) with a healthy 26% sales increase. TaioCruz lands in the top 10 with ‘Troublemaker’ at #10, his fourth Australian top 10 single result– the previous three, ‘Break Your Heart’, ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Hangover’ all making it to the top 3 or better. This week’s biggest top 40 mover is Carly Rae Jepsen with ‘Call Me Maybe’, which blasts up 24 places to 15. ‘Earthquake’ from Labrinth featuring Tinie Tempah enjoys a seven place increase, up to 21 and Lil Wayne’s ‘Mirror’ improves on last week’s debut of 37, up to 32 this week. This week’s two top 40 debuts come from Outasight at 37 with ‘Tonight Is The Night’ and Taylor Swift featuring The Civil Wars at 38 with ‘Safe & Sound’.
