GOODNIGHT OWL Release Debut Video For MAPS AND COMPASSES

Want a copy of Goodnight Owl EP “Goodnight Owl”? We have a few copies of Goodnight Owl’s self titled EP to give away to coincide with the bands release of their debut film clip for EP single Maps & Compasses.. See below for details.

Goodnight Owl can lead the way in two directions, an embrace of the dawn, or an adventure into the dark. Make it what you will, this 4 piece Melbourne band play a mixture of pop, folk, electronic, ambient, and post-rock music which takes the listener on a journey lyrically and musically.

The development of Goodnight Owl’s sound was significantly inspired when Eddie Alexander (vocals, guitar, bells, melodica, drum) was joined by childhood friends from Alice Springs Bella Walker (keys, glockenspiel) and Joe Walker (electronics, keys, glockenspiel, guitar, drum, melodica) in Melbourne, and met Eric Moore (drums) in 2009 to form what is now the band for live performances.

Rewinding back to 2008, it was then Eddie and Joe started combining talents of acoustic and electronic work in Joe’s bedroom, where Eddie would bring in a folk-based song, and Joe would add electronic beats and glitches to completely intensify the sound. This resulted in the self titled debut EP being recorded in 2008 with producer Nick Huggins (Whitley, Skipping Girl Vinegar), and being released in 2009. The EP sees Goodnight Owl under the same belt as bands such as The Postal Service, Sigur Ros, Bon Iver and Band of Horses, and has received airplay on radio stations such as Triple J, Triple R , ABC Rural and community stations Radio Adelaide, 2SER and PBS FM.

Goodnight Owl has played a string of local and regional gigs showing a strong versatility in both dynamic band and solo gigs, ensuring textures are increased and added from the EP. Highlights have included supporting the likes of Skipping Girl Vinegar and Kid Sam, two headline gigs at Bar Open (which drew a crowd to capacity on both occasions), and most recently a successful May residency at The Evelyn, which averaged 100 in attendance each Tuesday.

Goodnight Owl is now excited to release their debut film clip for EP single Maps & Compasses. Directed by Hayden Calnin and concept by Eddie Alexander, it was filmed throughout the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Goodnight Owl launch their video at The Workers Club on Saturday July 31st with Sleep Decade (also launching a video) and Hayden Calnin. Tickets $10, doors at 8:30.

The future is set to be busy for Goodnight Owl, with plans to record a new single and with a possible east coast tour to follow, there’s no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
