Laura ‘Twelve Hundred Times’ Tour – November 2011

For anyone who ever thought that making good music was a lost art, LAURA compels you to think again. On October 14 the Melbourne five piece release their long-awaited third album, TWELVE HUNDRED TIMES.

Of the new album, LAURA’s Andrew Yardley says ”’Cutting the fat’ – was the mantra applied to every aspect of creating TWELVE HUNDRED TIMES. Focused and obsessed, we were brutal in refining every note of every song. Songs and sounds became territorial, aggressively fighting for space. The weak were cut or cannibalised. Emotion was a scarce treat, allowed in small potions but neurotic self-restraint ensured it didn’t weaken our vision. Any reward songs gave us along the way was immediately ploughed

back into the earth. TWELVE HUNDRED TIMES is lean and sharp as planned but is ultimately more sentimental then we envisioned.”

Earlier this year, the band release the first two tracks from the album as a double a-side 7 inch, MARK THE DAY | THIS GREY EARTH. Dark, moody and complicated, the release gained significant critical attention with ‘Mark The Day’ being named Single Of The Week by both Beat Magazine and Inpress in January 2011, Inpress saying, “…(Mark The Day Is) enough to darken the sun at midday.”

In 2004, Laura’s debut album ‘Mapping Your Dreams’, received high-rotation airplay from independent stations around the country. Laura’s second album, ‘Radio Swan Is Down’, released in 2006, gained the attention of international ears including US prog-metal group ISIS, for whom Laura would go on to support on their 2007 Australian tour. Global exposure continued throughout 2008 and 2009 with album releases in Japan and in the US, a tour of Japan.

In November, Laura will return to the stage in support of the release of the TWELVE HUNDRED TIMES with series of performances in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

As intense as it is delicate, the music of Laura is sure to leave a mark on all who hear it. This is a band not to be missed.
