The Grates ‘Summer’s Breath’ Australian Tour – Oct/Nov 2011

As Winter begins to wane and Spring starts to blossom on the horizon, The Grates have their sights firmly on the hot winds blowing Summer our way as they hit the hot bitumen again in late October/November for their biggest national tour yet.

Having ignited the main stage as the sun set over Splendour In The Grass, The Grates are at the peak of their game. Helmed by the enigmatic, sassy frontwoman Patience Hodgson, their sophisticated live show has as many twists and turns as the singer’s dance moves, unparalleled by any band in the country right now. From her stage diving antics to provocative banter, you just never know what you’re going to get up close and personal.

“As frontwomen or, indeed, frontmen go, she is among the best I’ve seen: infinitely charismatic, insanely energetic and generally hard to take your eyes off. More importantly she barely misses a note despite the fact she shouldn’t be able to breathe.”
George Palathingal, Sydney Morning Herald, OAF June 24

Third album “Secret Rituals” has seen the band move forward as a force to be reckoned with, garnering near perfect reviews across the board.
“Their triumphant third effort which will surely be in the reckoning for best Australian album of the year.”
Sunday Herald Sun, 4/5

“Rituals is a rich collection of densely-textured indie pop that manages to distil everything cool that’s happening in music into one seamless package. “
Rolling Stone, 4.5/5

“The Grates finally bare their teeth – and they’re bloody sharp.”
The West Australian, 4.5/5

“The Grates, having found the beauty in catastrophe, really have moved on.”
The Australian, 4.5/5

“The energy is still there but the quality of their songwriting and the overall sound has matured to help them deliver this pop-rock delight.”
The Courier Mail, 4/5

“Secret Rituals is still an unmistakable Grates record, and it shows the hallmark of a great band when they can invent something new and still sound distinctly themselves.”
U On Sunday, 8/10

The Grates have embraced fellow Brisbanites Last Dinosaurs and beguiled them to join them on tour. Last Dinosaurs take a break from the studio recording their debut album with Sydney engineer Jean-Paul Fung (Leader Cheetah, Papa Vs Pretty) who is taking the production reigns. Having been holed up in Big Jesus Burger studio in Sydney, the band are looking forward to hitting the road and pitting their tour toughness against The Grates. Last Dinosaurs will be road testing some new materials as well as playing some old favourites.
