Take Five with The Bon Scotts – Interview

Life Music Media (LMM) caught up with Robert Zimmerman (RZ) of The Bon Scotts in the lead up to their “Polluted Sea” single launch.

LMM: Tell us a little about The Bon Scotts:

RZ – We are a 7 piece that calls Melbourne home.

LMM: You’ve played a few festivals recently, how was that experience?

RZ – Really great, we got to meet some fantastic people, play to some rowdy crowds. Although, the Port Fairy Festival was more a seated, regimented affair we still managed to make a mess of the Surf Club on closing night.

LMM: Your debut album ODDERNITY was received quite well?

RZ – I think so, we got great reviews and have pretty much sold out of our first run. It was a lot of fun to make and I think that showed.

LMM: How is the new album coming along?

RZ – We have written about 30 new tracks for it, so it is a slow process, but we are working out a final order and a now starting to get horn section, thereminists and groups of random people to sing, play and shout along side our already over zealous instrumentation.

LMM: Tell us about your process of song writing?

RZ – I do most of it in the studio, especially now the sun has gone. Usually write the music and lyrics together, but have been focusing more on the music this time. Seems no one listens to lyrics anymore, so I am just going to write nonsensical gibberish with clever peoples words occasionally thrown in for good measure.

LMM: Where do you draw your inspiration from?

RZ – As pretentious as it may sound, from books and newspapers mainly. I listen to a lot of [Bob] Dylan and Beach Boys, which may show, but i get most of the ideas from things I read.

LMM: How would you describe your sound?

RZ – Messy, a little cynical and cheeky.

LMM: Anything you would like to say to your growing fan base?

RZ – Download our new single at www.thebonscotts.com and come along to our show on Saturday [Polluted Sea single launch at the Grace Darling in Melbourne on Saturday 21st May 2011] and say hi.
