Tour News: MONO “For My Parents” Australian Tour – June 2013

MonoThrough windswept leaves the protracted crescendo draws forth the holy throne of Japan’s instrumental legend MONO. From the mountainous rent of forest hereby rumbles regenerational music of nature reemergent to their stirring Melbourne Festival 2011 performance with the 23 piece Holy Ground Orchestra. After confirming the invitation to perform at Satanalia on JUN 22 as part of the Hobart MONA DARK MOFO festival we are also very pleased to announce additional shows in Australia and New Zealand.

For My Parents is the most recent album by MONO, the Japanese quartet who over the course of half a dozen albums in twice as many years have followed their own muse, and in the process have become “one of the most distinctive bands of the 21st century.” They are an instrumental rock band whose melodies have grown increasingly lyrical, with increasingly transcendent execution. There is no doubting a MONO song when you hear it, and no denying their uncanny ability to feel perfectly at home in both pristine symphony halls and dirty rock clubs. In the way that only MONO can, For My Parents obliterates that divide, showcasing a sensitivity and maturity that simultaneously acknowledges where they came from, and where they’re going. The unique combination of soul-stirring melodies, cinematic East-meets-West arrangements, and firm command of elusive emotional intangibles is what makes MONO so…well, so MONO.

After years of exploring, searching ourselves, and composing pieces here and there, we found ourselves with more questions than answers.
When we could not find these answers in the outside world, we were bound to turn inward. And so we went back to our roots.

LEGEND http://player.vimeo.com/video/47015825
A joint collaboration with rock / ambient / experimental band MONO, Legend takes you on an epic 12 minute visual and aural journey through Iceland’s bre athtaking landscapes during the time of the midnight sun. The film travels across Iceland, from the floating blue icebergs of Jokulsarlon’s glacial lagoon to the steaming geothermic vents of Myvatn, the colorful mountains of Landmannalaugar to the breathtaking sunsets on Snaefellnes Peninsula, and the barren volcanic landscapes of Askja to the vast fields of lupin near Husavik. Featuring Mono’s score of the same name, Legend, its edgy cinematic and epic quality helps describe Iceland – a breathtakingly beautiful yet unforgivingly dangerous place.
