The M-Humm

Forward Sloth is proud to present the first taste of Brisbane psychedelic noise-pop band, The M-Humm’s double A-side single “Taming Tension” & “#2805” off the groups respective E.P.’s “I’ll Take Care of You, We Can Always Afford Rice” and “Termer”.

Following on from previous single ‘Eynoc ist Bunt tI’ Taming Tension is a somewhat misleading choice to represent the EP with the thrashing psych guitars and collections of noise being replaced with what the band calls ‘organ-pop’ in this comparatively short but sweet track. Taking its title from a Christian self-help book found on a train station seat, the initially improvised song meshes hip-hop drum machines, delayed vocals, boppy bass and wall of sound-like guitars into a catchy and deceptive upbeat world.

#2805 is an all-piano instrumental excerpt from the ‘Termer’ EP set to be released simultaneously with the ‘Rice’ EP. Focusing on space, dynamics and atmosphere within music, the track acts as a gateway drug to the EP. The Termer EP was recorded somewhat more untraditionally than any of the other bands releases, it was completed within a week in late May 2012 with each track being largely improvised and written, recorded and mixed within the same day – capturing a moment in time, as opposed to more traditional construction.

Also included within the release is a cover of The Knife’s You Make Me Like Charity. Adapted from an occasional live staple, the song loses its original electronic edge and is replaced with ground-moving bass reminiscent of doom based metal whilst still staying true to the original in a lot of ways, with the songs original hooks and classic knife manipulated vocals.

The B-Side is also set to be re-released in January as part of a future 7”
