Tour News: ADELE & GLENN On Tour – July 2012

Adele Pickvance and Glenn Thompson are two of the most loved and respected musicians in the Australian music community. Best known as the gun rhythm section for the incredibly successful second incarnation of The Go-Betweens. Glenn was also an original member of Custard and if you study your liner notes their names will appear regularly on plenty of your favourite albums.

ADELE & GLENN have taken their musical kinship to another level finding the inspiration to create their very special debut. CARRINGTON ST was recorded in Glenn’s studio in Sydney’s inner west giving the album the time and tender loving care it deserved.

The Smith Street Band Announce 2nd Album & National Tour

Poison City Records have revealed that burgeoning buzz band The Smith Street Band will release their second album Sunshine And Technology on August 24, 2012. To celebrate its release the band will tour extensively, playing headlining shows in capital cities Australia-wide.

The much loved Melbourne band’s debut album, 2011’s No One Gets Lost Anymore, was the sound of a band that had found their feet. Greeted with accolades, Beat Magazine wrote “happily one of the best Aussie albums in recent memory” and Triple J’s Stu Harvey added “The Smith Street band need to be heard”. Website Bombshellzine took it even further, voting it THE best album of the year.

SIREN LINES Single Launch – August 2012

Siren Lines are about to embark on their inaugural mission into live music venues down the East Coast of Australia in support of their brand new single ‘Dance in Clouds.’ The song was produced by Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels) and mastered in New York at West Side music by Alan Douches (Ben Folds, Brand New, Mastadon). The single is the first taste from their upcoming Debut EP, due for release later in 2012. It will be released on July 20 for free via the bands Bandcamp account as a taste of things to come from the band.

The Sydney four-piece create instantly relatable indie pop rock tunes that fill your heart with equal parts joy, hope and elation. Featuring intricate delay-driven guitar work, pounding, swelling, heaving drum parts, dancing bass lines and alluring and emotional vocals intended to make you swoon, Siren Lines effortlessly fuse eclectic sonic ideas into a cohesive soundscape you will find hard to not connect with.

Tour News: The Living End – ‘The Retrospective Tour’ | November-December 2012

THE LIVING END have announced that they will embark on an unique and ambitious tour this year. THE RETROSPECTIVE TOUR will see Australia’s legendary rock’n’roll sons play each of their six albums IN FULL, back-to-back, start to finish, across 35 shows in five capital cities.

This will be the very FIRST TIME each album has been performed live from start to finish, and the feat will almost certainly be the first time any Australian band has undertaken such an inspired tour. The Retrospective Tour will not take in stadium-sized venues either. Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and of course Melbourne will get seven shows across seven nights in intimate club venues, each with a limited capacity. Seven shows and only six albums you ask? Well, eponymous Australian classic album ‘The Living End’ will get two airings in each city.

Festival News: The Falls Music & Arts Festival Anniversary Announcement!

The Falls Music & Arts Festival reaches not one but TWO milestone years, celebrating the 20th and 10th anniversaries in Lorne and Marion Bay this year. Ditching the traditional china and tin and preparing for celebrations grander than the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Festival’s gift giving has commenced in fine style with the following artists signed up and packing their balloons and confetti for a helluva lota fun in Lorne and Marion Bay this summer.

Event News: Family fun at Queensland’s largest event!

There will be no shortage of family friendly activities at this year’s Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) with the return of old favourites and the introduction of some brand new shows.

A trip to the Ekka remains Queensland’s number one great family value event with hundreds of free attractions and activities to experience once you’re inside the gates. More than 70 per cent of the showgrounds are dedicated to free activities. This includes 10,000 animals, performances by hit television series dirtgirl, hilarious comedy skits by The Crackup Sisters, singalongs with Farmer Rob and Sunny the Sunflower and the show stopping two hour night-time entertainment program.

Chicago instrumental five-piece, TORTOISE, are heading to Australia in October to play their astonishing amalgamation of rock, dub, dance, jazz, techno and minimalism in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.

While they’ve been around for over two decades and released six critically acclaimed studio albums, when blog, The Line Of Best Fit reviewed Tortoise playing a show in London in 2009 and said: “All talk of age is useless – up there is a bunch of kids having the time of their lives and making some of the most vital music anywhere in the world…”

Tour News: Defeater / Blacklisted Australian Tour | September-October 2012

In what could be one of the worst kept secrets of 2012 we can now confirm Massachusetts band Defeater will indeed be returning to Australia this September just over a year since they were here last. Defeater will be joined by none other than Philadelphia’s ever evolving Blacklisted, touring Australia for the first time since 2008.

Defeater are a band that play by their own rules; they write narrative songs about fictional characters, release concept albums, mix melodic hardcore with acoustic ballads – all the while tapping into issues such as social awareness and environmental activism. Since their formation over four years ago, Defeater have released two full-lengths (2008’s Travels and 2011’s double-LP Empty Days & Sleepless Nights) and an EP (2009’s Lost Ground) that all follow a story-telling songwriting style the band has developed about a family set in post-WWII America in a working class town in New Jersey.

Tour News: Apocalyptica Australian Tour – August/September 2012

In anticipation of their first ever Australian tour, Apocalyptica have revealed which local acts will accompany them on their string of East Coast shows this August/September.

Brisbane’s Awoken Solace will lend their blend of orchestral power metal, medieval baroque and fantasy soundtracks to the August 30th show, while Sydney’s progressive doom five-piece Rise Of Avernus will accompany them on August 31. Finally, Melbourne’s Be’lakor will return from their European tour just in time to join Apocalytpica at Melbourne’s Hi-Fi Bar on September 1.

Apocalyptica are coming. Twenty years from inception, one of the biggest names in European metal is finally touring Australia. Combining classical nuance with brutal breakdowns, this fantastic Finnish four-piece are quintessential Eurock with a difference. They are metal, with cellists.

Their most recent album, 7th Symphony was produced by Joe Baressi (Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool) and features guests vocalists including Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Brent Smith (Shinedown), Joe Duplantier (Gojira) and Diane Warren (Award winning songwriter for artists like Aerosmith, Toni Braxton, Celine Dion). 7th Symphony has been touted as the band’s most inspired release to date, with equal emphasis on beautiful melodies and heavy, bombastic rhythms.
